  1. I'd say that Monica Dillon from Coffee County (mid-late 90's era) deserves a mention if we are talking about the "best to ever play" in TN. I've rarely seen anyone since who played as tough. She played tough under a tough coach at Coffee, and went on to play four years for Kay Yow, one of the most highly regarded Women's college coaches of all time, with several NCAA tourney appearances, and an NCAA Final Four appearance. Can't say positively, but I think she also logged some time playing professionally somewhere or other. When you watched her play- you just knew she was a rare talent!
  2. Tullahoma will be a contender as they had no seniors last year. Coffee still has some solid players, but the loss of Vaughn and Morgan's floor presence is likely to be palpable at times as both of them had a tremendous ability to come through in the clutch. I believe that Lincoln will also be a team that will be able to upset at times, they had lots of young players and Coach Tipps has the ability to adjust really well. Should be interesting!
  3. I said neither of those things. I said Tullahoma was “playing better”, not that they were “playing good ball”. I said Coffee didn’t seem to be playing their “best ball”. Both of these statements are relative to each particular team and and my opinion- not to your definition of “good basketball”. I still believe the tournament will be exciting I think that Coffee wins the tournament most likely. I think 2-4 is anybody’s. 8-AAA is not the strongest district, so yes Coffee is 8-0, but a good chunk of those win margin points come from an extremely week Columbia team. It’s not a matter of “koolaid” drinking, I’m just looking at the whole picture and the long run. Pearlball reiterates exactly what I was getting at in the first place in terms of offensive cohesion, and it’s definitely true that if we put a W in the column we move on and keep plugging. Again, this is an opinion/discussion board, so please don’t twist my words.
  4. I'm really surprised at how the regular season play has shaken out. I thought that Franklin County would perform better in terms of W/L's as well as Lawrence. Just based on press releases alone and not having watched them play except one time, it seems like Tullahoma is playing better and may be the surprise of the district this year. I predict an exciting game against Coffee Friday night considering the former and also considering that, while they continue to win, Coffee doesn't really seem to be playing their best ball. Individual stats here and there look pretty good, but on the court their team effort seems kind of piecemeal. So we shall see! Tournament will be exciting as well I believe!
  5. I'm going with the latter...but time will tell. There was a great deal of discussion about the all district selections last year. I'm not sure what it's even supposed to mean anymore.
  6. This is pretty much how I feel about it all PB. Last night was a pretty hideous game to watch on CC's part, but they got the W so we move on I suppose. It's never safe to overlook any team! I thought SC played hard last night. I think that whether or not Tullahoma's mid-season addition makes an impact, the rematch will be an exciting one because of the rivalry and dynamics. I expect that to be one of the more exciting regular season games that Coffee has left to play, BUT as I said....can't overlook anyone at this point. A mediocre effort against an otherwise fair/average team at any point can really hurt.
  7. I expect a fast, physical game from Franklin.
  8. Coffee had a squeaker with Tullahoma and let Warren and Lincoln hang around too much. I'm hoping once they are back home Friday night they will settle in from the Holidays and start rolling again like usual. I agree with your predictions OEE.
  9. I didn't receive it that way, that's what happens here- we share opinions!
  10. For what it's worth, if their plan was to flop on ball screens, it hurt them. I don't think it worked at all. Lots of fouls on the offensive end- it caused a couple of players to have to sit with fouls. I'd love to see the film, but seemed like they might need to do a little more work on setting/using ball screens from what I could tell.
  11. Coffee actually has several kids who are performing well right now. It takes a team to make it happen. They have two seniors averaging double figures, two freshman who have been able to give some quality minutes as needed, and some juniors who play important roles on the floor. The Graham kid is one of my favorites to watch- she gives SO much on defense, and every now and then, right when they seem to need it, she comes up with a big basket. Vaughn and Vinson both have beautiful shots. I'm not sure what the future holds for them. Cookeville constitutes the most quality pair of wins they have at this point, in my opinion. I think they have Oakland coming up and some sort of other Christmas tournament. I am very interested to see how they will finish this year.
  12. You are right about that. I think both could potentially pose problems, but again- so hard to police.
  13. I'm conflicted about this. I think that it gets tricky, but there seems to be such a relatively small pool of people who are willing to coach these days (which is totally understandable) that it becomes hard to find people to do it who don't already have some sort of coaching gig. Also, it would be really a headache for TSSAA to police, which doesn't mean it should be allowed necessarily, but it's just one of the perceived problems with making some kind of a rule concerning it.
  14. Better how? A 30 point defeat to a win in a couple of weeks is quite a change- what was the big difference?
