  1. They have trained together a little in the past, but Brayden was typically heavier than Cooper. They’ve been on several national teams together. It would have been nice to see them on opposite sides of the bracket for the chance at this match later in the tournament. This will actually be Brayden’s 3rd time at nationals. It would be awesome to see him and Cooper (and Chittum) all end the year on the podium.
  2. Their lineup on wrestlestat is pretty close to what I’m expecting to see this season. https://www.wrestlestat.com/team/16/chattanooga/profile
  3. Posting for my brother. See below... My name is Brayden Palmer. I am a D1 wrestler at UT Chattanooga and a NCAA national qualifier. I was also a NHSCA senior national champion, 2 time state champion, and 4 time state finalist. I wanted to reach out to the Tennessee wrestling community about scheduling some dates for camps with programs in the area. I will also be offering private lessons in the Chattanooga area. If you are interested, please contact me at [email protected] .
  4. I am going to try and clarify the story since everyone keeps talking about something from two years ago, and there seems to be different stories going around. Hopefully this will be the end of this, and will get this post back on track talking about pound for pound rankings for the upcoming season. The plan in the preseason was for Noah to start the year at 120, and Brayden at 126. Once they got the 2 pound allowance, Noah would go to 113, and Brayden would drop to 120. Noah did grow, and it was clear he wasn’t going to make 113. He was trying to get down to 113 still, and got pretty dehydrated. This was when he lost the match to Borders (They had a rematch a month later and Noah pinned him). It was clear Noah wasn’t himself, and I think he went to the hospital after the dual. It was 100% the right decision at that point to not let him try and make 113 anymore. Brayden still wanted 120, and now Noah wasn’t going to 113. Coach Roberts held a wrestle off after Christmas. The only people there were Brayden, Noah, Coach Roberts, and the TSSAA ref. I would have paid to watch the match, but I understood the reasoning to make it private. Brayden ended up winning a decision. I don’t remember the final score, but was told it was a good match. Noah went up to 126, and won state again anyway in a stacked weight class. I don’t think anyone wanted a wrestle off, but that’s what happened. At least it worked out, and they both won state titles that year. For the rankings, I think some of the younger wrestlers are being overrated. A placement at Fargo as a cadet or NHSCAs in the freshman division is impressive. However, I don’t think that automatically makes someone top 10 in the state over a Junior or Senior that hasn’t had the same success on a national level. I’m taking Noah, Whitworth, Bowers, Isbell, Bates, Coffey, McDaniel, and other wrestlers that have proven themselves in state (in HS) over someone like Howard or Davis that has never won a TSSAA state title but was successful on the national level against wrestlers their own age. Some of these young guys may go on to be among the best TN has ever seen, but I wouldn’t say they are the best pound for pound yet. If you look at Flo’s pound for pound list, there is not 1 Freshman or Sophomore on that list right now. There’s a reason someone like McGowan that just won a cadet world title, and is number 1 on the freshman big board isn’t on Flo’s pound for pound list yet.
  5. Yes that’s him. He is back at Beech.
  6. I can’t stand PSU either. I still get the feeling Nolf would of found a way had the takedown not been reversed though. Both wrestlers would have wrestled the last two periods differently, and somehow I just think Nolf still would’ve got it done. It sucks we didn’t get to see it play out that way. I’m even more upset about Gable’s match. Cassar’s takedown was nice. His backing up and avoiding wrestling for the other 6 and a half minutes was not.
  7. I think Dendy, Isbell, and Whiteside are the top 3, and any of those 3 could win on a given day. It’s just a matter of who is wrestling the best on that day. Dendy beat Isbell in OT, Isbell beat Whiteside in OT, and Whiteside beat Isbell by decision. The point is that I think they are all really close to each other. Then I’d probably go Wysong just behind them. I’m not saying to change the seeding, but just giving my personal opinion of how I see it playing out.
  8. I’m not sure where that info is coming from, but it is not true at all. Station Camp currently has no wrestling program, and has never had a wrestling program. The latest thing I heard is that a new school will be being built in the future, and no new sports programs will be added at least until after that school is up and running. It’s possible that Station Camp adds wrestling, but it will be at a minimum 2 years from now. Both wrestlers would be out of school by then. I don’t blame their parents for making the best decisions for their kids, but it was not forced by the TSSAA.
  9. Very true. I kind of expected it, since he had been ranked there the whole year. This was just the first time I actually seen it happen.
  10. Cleveland’s is up now. Looks like Whiteside is down to 132 with Laxton as their new 138. They were going to win anyway, but it definitely makes them even tougher.
  11. I was looking through the lineups on Track this morning, and seen Arlington has Cannon entered at 120. That’s a pretty big change to their lineup. That should make him the instant state title favorite at that weight assuming he stays down.
  12. Bowers is a stud, and has helped Christian Brothers out a lot. I wouldn’t say he would’ve been a sure fire 4 timer though. Let’s not forget about that kid from Bradley waiting in the finals if Bowers had got past Brayden. Even though Bowers upset him once that year, TJ was the best in the state and showed it when it mattered.
  13. Region 6 was Wilson Central first and Beech second. Wilson Central over Rossview 48-27, and Beech over Clarksville 37-36 after forfeiting the last three matches. Beech forfeited to Wilson Central in the finals.
  14. I’m pretty certain Beech is attending the Father Ryan tournament. I’m not sure why track has them listed under both tournaments.
  15. I took Brayden up there, and had the chance to watch most of Noah’s matches as well. While he didn’t place, he still looked really good. The bracket was just that loaded. That was also his first tournament up that heavy, so I think the strength played into it a little. I haven’t seen it mentioned, but Baylor’s incoming freshman David Harper is the real deal. He took 2nd at 189. In the semis he took down the top seed and Florida state champ 3-2. I was really impressed in my first time watching him wrestle. The kid has bright future, and I expect we will be seeing his name a lot more.
