  2. Here is some great plays by Mid-State umpires......maybe we should have a shortage?? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfLWYxWtKmI At least the umpire in the field did look at the video after the game and said he made some mistakes BUT the umpire behind the plate wouldn't even look at them. He say why would I want to see that stuff.....well it may help you to become a better umpire....I wonder why NCAA, NFL, MLB, and uses them? Why do police use cam recorders to prove what really happen. I give the umpire in the field a positive remarks because he said I want to get better the umpire behind the plate said it was stupid to look at the video....maybe we should show more of these stupid calls and the TSSAA will see what coaches see? I will NEVER use a person's name who made the mistake but these aren't close calls? If you have more of these types of video please share but don't use names of umpires lets show class. But let folks know what coaches are seeing from these umpires and MAYBE T$$AA will give them more training.
  3. OK please help me out! The assigning officers for the softball umpires are all men. Most of them are over 65 years old. We should be getting more women involved in our sport. I have seen in the past, that these officers are treating people like they did 30 years ago. There is one assigning officer who assigns baseball and softball. One of his umpires asked him to call either baseball or softball, during the week, but not back and forth. This aging assigning officer was NOT going to be told what to do. He showed the umpire who was in charge. So therefore, the rest of the year, he had a baseball game and then softball. So, the umpire quit! He was an excellent umpire, a very good man, but he wasn't going to be treated unfairly. The T$$AA lets these older gentlemen continue to be in charge.....again why not change the culture and get more women involved. As a husband and father, I don't want my wife or daughter working for these men. Time has past them by, but the T$$AA continues the same course. Guess what you get when you don't change course......the same results. So do you really think that more people will want to umpire if you raise the rate or until you solve the problems?
  4. I heard that Knoxville Farragut was going to be tough this year! Excellent Coach has a great group of players.
  5. "From the umpires I've seen in K-town, they should pay the schools instead of the schools paying them." I bet our umpires are older and slower than yours!
  6. Could someone please help me understand this question. Why are we paying umpires more this year than last year? Did they go to school and take more courses to become a better umpire? Did this pay raise give us more umpires than we had last year? Are they going to be faster and see better than last year? Will they be a year older and slower? Will they have a better attitude for the extra money? Are they going to work longer time limits for tournament games than last year? When you go out for dinner and you have to pay more don't you expect more for your money??? So are we getting more or the same or less? Just like to hear some answers why they are getting more money for the same job.
  7. Why does the T$$AA have old men coming to coaches and umpire meetings. I went to the rules meeting this year and the man that talked to us was over 75 yrs old. He said if the players didn't have gloves or bats, we should provide them, so they could play. Fifty yrs ago, this would have been great. But today's athletes, most players have their own bats and gloves, two or more on that note. I would say there is no team in Tennessee that has a team bag anymore. He was so old, he didn't know that players have their own equipment now. Wouldn't it make sense to have a female to come and talk about the game of softball, instead of a 75+ year old man. Oh wait, Nevermind I forgot. We're talking about T$$AA!
