  1. http://www.johnsoncitypress.com/Sports/ ... p?ID=72442 Cyclones make Roadrunners look like Wile E Coyote!!! GO Cyclones!!!!
  2. Dye was named player of the year. From SG, Casteel, Hicks and Crum were all conference. From EHS, it was Pietrowski, Jefferson and Powell. I think the STAR had the entire team listed in the paper a week or so ago. Greeneville paper has the ones from Greene County. http://greenevillesun.com/story/302236
  3. Great Job Lady Cyclones!! Good news travels fast. I heard the yells 2000 miles away. Yea Mon. No problem. I bet ole 'Write Stuff' is walking about four feet off the ground today!!! So happy for the seniors, Mariah and Arin. Enjoy the experience. EHS vs SG in the final. I be back for that one!
  4. Congrats to both SG and EHS. It was the Lady Cyclones' turn. Gutsy win by the orange and black. Neither team has a bargain saturday night as both Gibbs and Seymour are very good teams. Seymour knows how to get to the Boro, and Gibbs has a veteran team who knows how to win on the road (at Loudon in the regional quarters and at Fulton in the regional semis). If both teams play like they did last night, I see District 1AA with two teams in Murfreesboro.
  5. One thing is certain, SG will have a 'run'. They key for EHS is limiting that run to 6 or 8 points; rather than double digits. If EHS can weather the inevitable SG run, they will win the game. I look for the officials to let them play. Lets face it, a foul could be called on every single possession, on both sides. As long as it stays "clean", let em play ball. The block/charge calls will be huge though. This is one year where the loser of this game has a very decent shot at winning on the road since it doesnt go through Austin East (first time in many years). While Gibbs and Seymour have very good teams, winning at either one is do-able by either SG or EHS. Should be a great game tonight. EHS has brought home the last two regional championships from Chuckey Doak Middle School so I like our chances for a three-peat tonight. Go Orange and Black!!!
  6. coachh17, from what I gather PF plays a pressure defense, and attempts to wear teams down by the fourth quarter. Apparently thats what happened to CD friday night. They also appear to be a team that takes care of the ball. Only AA team to beat them this year is Seymour. Attached are a couple recent articles on them. Go Cyclones! http://mountainpress.southernheadlines.com...amp;story=12265 http://mountainpress.southernheadlines.com...amp;story=11876 http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2009/feb/23/p...rge-wins-title/
  7. What type of game does Grainger play? Fast paced or half court? Man or zone on D? Press? I know they have some size; How do you see the matchup with 6-2 Pietrowski. Elizabethton usually only plays 7 unless there is foul trouble. How many are in Grainger's usual rotation? This is EHS's first home regional game since TSSAA went to the current setup three years ago. The last two years we had to win on the road in the quarters (at Gatlinburg in 07 and at Claiborne last year). Should be a big crowd on hand friday night for this one. Will Grainger bring a good following of fans? There is plenty of seats in Treadway gym. Fill er Up. Go Cyclones.

  10. krich and coachh17: As my feeble mind recalls here is the Lady Cyclone run: 2008 Regular season 2nd; 3rd place district tourney; Regional Champions; Lost home substate to Stone. 2007 Regular season cochamps with SG; 3rd place district tourney; Regional Champions; Lost home substate to Stone. 2006 Regular season champs(undefeated); District Champs; Lost in Regional semis in OT to that darn Radar (GP) in Maynardville 2005 Regular season champs; District Champs; Regional Champs; Substate winner; Lost in state qtrs to eventual state champion Chester Co led by current Ole Miss star Bianca Thomas. 2004 Regular season 2nd; District Champs; Regional Champs; Lost home substate by 2 to Oliver Springs led by Laura Hall. 2003 Regular season 2nd; District runnerup; Regional runnerup. Lost road substate game to Austin East. 2002 Regular season 3rd; District runnerup; Regional semifinalist, lost to SG. 2009: Regular season 2nd; District runner up; Regional______________!!!
  11. Elizabethton had SG on the ropes in regulation but just could not knock down the free throws. EHS missed 9 of 10 FTs in the last minute of regulation, allowing SG to hang around long enough to get the game to OT. EHS led by five at the half, 25-20, I think. SG came out hard in the third, and forged a lead heading into the fourth. EHS fought back and had a 5 point lead inside the last minute of regulation. That last minute must have took 20 minutes to play. Both teams left it all on the floor. Refs were controversial, but to be fair, they had a hard job tonight. Very physical play on both sides. A technical on a SG player gave EHS a chance to retake the lead at the foul line with 15 seconds to play. EHS missed but still had possession, and Jefferson got fouled on a shot attempt with 5 seconds left, but missed both FTs. SG didnt get a shot off so OT here we come, tied at 55. In OT SG took control early and never let up. Fouls played a huge role. Pietrowski fouled out in regulation. Before it was over four of the lady cyclones six starters (I consider Bowling a starter) exited via fouls (Powell, Fritz, Bowling and Mariah). Dye for SG must have scored 30 points. A bright spot for the Lady Cyclones' was sophomore Erin Kiser who had a career night with about 18 points. EHS is getting closer to SG. I hope these two get a rematch next week with a home substate game on the line. For the Cyclone faithful, this game would hurt alot more if it was a season ender. But its not. Im confident the Clones will learn from this near-win experience and draw on it next week. I'd say Len will have them shooting some extra FTs at the end of practice this week. Outstanding effort by both teams. Go Cyclones!
  12. For Elizabethton to win, Powell must stay out of foul trouble. EHS needs her on the court to help handle the SG press. SG needs Dye to stay out of foul trouble for them to win. If EHS can keep this a half court type game, they win. If its a run and gun affair, that favors SG. While tonights game is big......its for a District title; next weeks likely Regional championship game is bigger. Good luck Lady Cyclones.
  13. With regard to the Devil-Cyclone game monday-----There is another big advantage the 2 seed will have over the 3 seed (other than the momentum a big win gives going into the district and any perceived advantage in playing West Greene instead of Johnson County), and that is this: The 2 seed will play their quarterfinal game next wednesday. The 3 seed will play their game friday night. The semifinal games are saturday. What coach wouldnt rather play Wed-Sat than Fri-Sat? This schedule is due to the TSSAA's rule that you cannot play more than two games on a school night.
  14. Right On coach17. I can still see that slingshot 3 in Sullivan North's gym. I had forgotten that Brandy was a hurler as well. Hope to be able to make senior night against the Warriors tommorrow.
