There are way too many to mention. Maybe the best back and lineman from each team would be more like it, although that would still be hard to do.

wow, that list would be huge!

A question I would have- what year did the NIL go out of existence?

Some I remember were Fred Fisher, Barry Burton, Lonnie Sadler, Jimmy Gaylor, and Ralph Carnahan.

The NIL still existed through the '78 season, although the district set-up had made it a bit irrelevant. The '70 season, when MBA played Two Rivers in the Clinic Bowl, is probably the last time the NIL had real importance.

Some that I would list (and I'll go for the obscure here)

Danny Hunley (Cumberland)

Terry Potter (Goodlettsville)

David Belt (Madison)

Walter Herod (Hendersonville)

Walter Overton (Pearl)

Jeff Woodcock (Maplewood)

Anybody who lettered (MBA, '66-'68)

E.J. Junior (Mapelwood & University of Alabama) was All-Pro in the NFL

Lester McClain (Antioch & University of Tennessee)

"Jefferson Street" Joe Gillam (Pearl, Tennessee State, Pittsburgh Steelers)

Mike Wright (Father Ryan) was probably the best QB from Middle Tennessee until Ingle Martin (MBA) started to play. Is it true that one of Wright's daughters is married to Martin?

Yes, his daughter Jennifer married Ingle a year or so ago. She pitched softball for Alabama for four years. His other daughter, Amy, has dated Matt Frieje (Vanderbilt basketball) for years as well.

What about Carlton Flatt, head coach at Brentwood Academy? Didn't he play ball in Nashville?

Carlton Flatt played at the old Cumberland High School in North Nashville.

Howell Flatt was in the backfield at Cumberland in those years. I believe they were cousins, or something. I believe that Howell was athletic director at MT Juliet a few years back. :thumb:

Wayne Bush was 20 or 21 as a senior at Glencliff.

Bill Wade had the strongest arm of any QB from the NIL.

    • TSSAA restrictions for hiring non-faculty coaches have been removed for over a year at this point. In the past a non-faculty person had to be "grandfathered" by being an assistant coach for five years, being fingerprinted, and having a background check run per TSSAA rules... since those were rescinded, the board of directors for the school district are responsible for any/all restrictions on hiring non-faculty personnel. I guess what I'm saying to you is that if you really wanted what you posted, it's already possible as long as your local BOE will allow for it.
    • stop it, rlh. you’re gonna get me all misty eyed and sentimental. i see seven fairly regularly. ….but slim shady, that’s like spotting bigfoot on main street. you just hope he doesn’t spot you.
    • Are you trying to say you didn't find Seven and ShadySlim going at it?
    • hey goat! how’s monterey looking this year?!
    • several people actually. they said “snoball, do you know who railbird81 is on coacht?” I said, “never heard of her.” they said, “you ought to check it out they’re getting fired up on there like the old days.” well, you can imagine my disappointment when I came here expecting sharp, witty banter and all i found was more akin to toddlers slap fighting. and what looks like 1 guy/gal talking to themselves with multiple accounts.
