DII-AA West (2016 Version)

How good are MUS, Briarcrest, and CBHS this year?  I haven't seen any of them play.  Judging only from their scores, these 3 teams seem pretty equal. Briarcrest by 3 over CB, but lost to MUS by 4.  All 3 teams have done extremely well in non-region games, with MUS undefeated.  CBHS beat a nationally top-55 ranked team from Ohio.  

 

One ranking system that takes into account out-of-state games has MUS as the 6th best team in Tennessee (3rd in D2).  Another ranking system that doesn't consider OOS games (actually seems to penalize for OOS games) has MUS down in the 50's in the state (8th in D2).  And the AP has MUS as #1.  

 

So, is MUS one of the top teams in the state - meaning (to me, at least) Briarcrest and CBHS are also top teams in the state?  Regardless, it looks like the seeding will be decided next week when MUS and CBHS plays.  What happens if CB wins, causing a 3-way tie?  Who gets #1,2 & 3?

Yes they are all good this year.  All are big and physical.  The way that the radio was describing it this morning is that if MUS beats a 1-7 Craigmont team tonight (assumed) they will get the #1 seed no matter what happens next week based on overall record, then Briarcrest will get the head to head over CB to take #2 if they win out and CB will fall to the #3.

The above statement is correct:  MUS is #1 seed regardless of outcome vs CBHS.

 

I have seen all the D2AA teams play.  Whatever poll has MUS as #3 in D2AA is accurate IMO.  Their defense has been excellent, but they just lost arguably their best D player for the season.  Still the D is stout.  However, I'm not confident they can stop MBA's stud RB nor BA's stud QB.  Moreover, their offense is average for D2AA, and their starting QB has been out for a month with a shoulder injury.   Even if he is healthy for the playoffs, he is not a threat to run, and his passing is streaky.  MUS has had problems establishing a running game, so they can't afford for him to have a bad night passing.  MUS' kicking game is excellent as usual.

I've seen St. Benedict play, so maybe everyone is just assuming they will lose?  Ha.  So, the seeds should be:

 

1. MUS

2. Briarcrest

3. CB

4. St. Benedict

 

There's a lot riding on the final games in the E/M division.  MBA will be #1.  If BA beats McCallie, BA is #2, Ensworth #3 and McCallie #4.  If Ensworth beats MBA, Ensworth will either be #2 or #3.

Well, podner. he is absolutely correct.  If St Benedict beats Briarcrest and CBHS beats MUS, then CBHS would be #1.   However, if I looked up and saw SB over BCS, I would start looking for shelter from a falling sky and finding a down parka to wear in heck....
