WaCo,

Did you have a bad bag of popcorn from Wallace's News Stand? You have incredible negativity about DB sports. Even in Kingsport, where high school sports are incredibly important, your brand of onions and garlic is venomous and toxic. You have been carping about the basketball coach, who has now resigned, and now you are expecting a bad hire because "[t]hey haven't made a decent hire in 20 years." Take a step back and see all that is good about DB sports: great facilities, loyal (mostly) fans, longstanding rivalries, historic teams, iconic coaches and a long list of accomplished players. Patience is never a hallmark of DB supporters, but now there is a chance to change the paradigm in basketball. Could be an opportunity to find the next Van Huss. Has anybody made a trip to Carter County yet? That was the cradle of good coaches back in the day.

OldIndian18,

Let me give you a quick dose of logic. If a coach (football & basketball) has two losing seasons is a row, has players leaving the team, transferring, or just choosing not to play at all, for a school that leads the state in all time wins in both sports, then whoever "doesn't speak up" are the negative ones. You sound like you support loosing. I support winning. I completely agree with what you said about all that is good about DB. But noticed you left out the most important thing "for today". They are not winning. Winning is what made all those great things about DB. That is now gone. You're okay with it. I am not. It's that simple.

    • Both places Woods has been at have gotten better pretty quickly after his arrival. If you can win consistently in Metro while having to fend off the vultures from picking your roster clean, your doing something right
    • They typically have a handful of black kids (nothing at all wrong with that, it’s great), but these past few years both sides of the ball have been primarily black kids. Again, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that, in general, all I’m saying is that the past few seasons or so, the teams demographics just doesn’t match what it has been, historically speaking. And that didn’t start, until Keith got there. That’s all I’m saying. Rather odd how that just starts magically happening ever since he got there.
    • I have always known Clinton and the football team to be diverse. Not saying its like Knox but I would say more so than you're leading onto. Maybe more kids are wanting to play for a minority coach like that OL that commityed to Colorado over UT due to Deion "looking like him"- Jordan Seaton
    • It’s just the facts. Not sure how else to put it.
    • As a parent, this was always my worst nightmare.  I take it for granted every time I get in the car and took it for granted most of the time when one of my sons was on the wrestling mat.  Sometimes things are not "going to be fine". Jacob was wrestling in a Greco match at Iron Man when he was thrown.  He landed on his head and neck and shattered his C6 and C7.  His spinal cord was offset which is not good. He is currently at Vanderbilt Childrens in Nashville and has undergone a big surgery to brace his neck with pins and screws and realign his spinal cord, but damage has been done.  He is currently not able to move his legs or control his fingers.  I visited him yesterday and this young man has a long row to hoe. I'm asking the wrestling community here in TN to lift his family up in prayer and come together to help.  He will likely have to go to Shephard Center in Atlanta which is going to require his mom and dad to take off work, travel, eat out, etc. Jacob does have some feeling in his lower extremities, so we are praying he will be able to recover.  Time will tell and God is in control. If you are unable to donate $5-10, please offer up prayers for Jacob to heal completely and for patience and strength for his parents as they are no doubt dealing with a worst nightmare. GO FUND ME for JACOB   gofund.me/22e00da8 Thanks, Matt Sells - Blackman Wrestling
