Chattanooga Christian allowed to play down in classification

This topic involves all sports in division 2 starting the Fall of 2017 but I decided to post it in soccer as CCS is always a team that goes deep in the post season in soccer. Many bloggers may already know this, many may not but CCS is a D2 class AA team allowed to play down in class A for 2 years.  They sent their enrollment in to the TSSAA when all schools had to report theirs and once the districts were laid out they were put in class AA East Region...were they belong, about 4 weeks later they decided to appeal it and ask to play down in class A and sure enough they won and now they have been dropped down to class A East Region district 2.  Now, please someone correct me but as long as I can recall, the TSSAA has NEVER allowed a team to play down.  True, the cutoff is 450 and they are at 458 just 8 over the enrollment but that should not matter.  The number is the number, why should they get special treatment.  What gets me is the fact that this was a closed door meeting, not many people know this fact as it was swept under the rug.  I checked the TSSAA minutes every time they come out and it has never been put in the minutes.  What kind of story could CCS have told the Board of Control to win a case like this and for the TSSAA to be hush hush on this.  Not only does this hurt those now in class A in that particular district and region but it also hurts the class AA district that they were initially placed in which knocked them down to only 3 teams.  The reason I heard is that A: they have to travel more and B: no one in Chattanooga would play them..........Bull and Bull is all I have to say.  I will tell you the real reasons and that is the district they were originally placed in in class AA is comprised of Baylor, McCallie and GPS.......and that my friend is the real reason they wanted out. To the CCS headmaster and AD, put on your big boy pants and do the right thing....play in the class that you belong in.  I hope that this sets a precedent and more schools that are on the bubble of classifications finds this out and bombard the TSSAA board of control to do the same thing and appeal to drop down.  Why not.....they've already opened the door with CCS.  Ok, I just needed to vent....I feel better now.

Not sure why the TSSAA allowed it and it seems wrong? But, if they are now forced to play your team, Grace, it's ok with me. Especially since you enjoy beating teams by double digits 10 times last season. Thank goodness CPA beat you in Murfreesboro though. I've never pulled against any school, at any level, more than you guys after reading your excuses as to why you ran it up. Not to mention some of the stuff reported on here that your football program has done after wins.

I find it laughable you called them out to "put their big boy pants on" when you ran it up like you did against every struggling program you could. It is obvious you do not have a mirror so please borrow one and take a look the next time you want to call out another school.

BTW at least Webb and CPA put their enrollment at the "magical" 449 though. Lol They both have the whole state chuckling over it too. It kinda exposed them a bit. I get your point but Grace is absolutely the wrong messenger.

Actually, the "magical" number would have been 450, and NOT 449 (we could have still had an enrollment of  450 and been in D2 A).  Not really sure how this "exposed" us to anything, as we took the actual number of students we had enrolled.

It wasn't the best way to get enrollment, either.  Take an average over several years, not a "as of Sept. 14 this is how many we have enrolled".  I also don't know how they come up with 450, regardless.

I'm fine with being in either D2 A or D2 AA.  We play those bigger schools anyway during regular season.

I do find it odd how they handled the CCS situation.  I also didn't find it on any of the minutes.

No idea, but if "the door has been opened" Scotts Hill has a case...Clarksville Academy chose to remain in DI. After the numbers were processed and the new regions announced, it was apparent that the easier path for them would have been in DII, so they appealed to TSSAA, and were allowed to jump to the "private division". This move not only was allowed weeks after the hard deadline to declare, and caused havoc with the region teams forced to find replacement games, but forced SH into a higher classification. If CA had declared before the reclassification, Scotts Hill remains in 1A (2A football), but was bumped to 2A when CA's enrollment numbers were calculated in DI beneath them. As it stands, SH (500 students) will be placed in a district where the majority of teams enrollment numbers are at least double. There are only two schools adversely affected...SH and whomever was bumped from 2A to 3A, so it's doubtful that an appeal would be heard, but there are plans to submit one.

So you dont find it strangely odd both you guys and Webb ended up with the same enrollment number which just happens to be a razors edge below the cutoff? Lol

I'm a fan of CPA because of my many friends with kids there and my relative being a HC for CPA. However, even those friends chuckle at your enrollment number.

Regardless, I look forward to the soccer game with you guys every year as does #19. :)

What I find strangly odd is that since day 1 of D2, the A to AA split has always been 529 (from 2013-2017).  How they came up with 450, I have no idea.

"PRIVATE SCHOOLS CHEAT!!! KICK THEM OUT OF D1!!!"

"PRIVATE SCHOOLS FUDGE THEIR NUMBERS, KICK THEM UP TO THE BIGGER DIVISION!"

"IF YOU ARE SUCCESSFUL, YOU COULDN'T DO IT HONESTLY!"

What I DO find "strangely odd" is that schools like Greeneville and Page have figured out how to do it  and do it right, without any whining or complaining.  The year that private schools get "kicked out" COULD actually have a public school win both the girls AND the guys soccer championship.  It's because these schools didn't whine or complain, but went out and put the work in.

Yep, simple as that. More work equals better results. Classification system has nothing to do with it. Nothing at all.

Sounds like growing pains, really. This is just a potential outcome of creating more classifications and trying to find ways to put teams in their most appropriate spots. Except for Scotts Hill. That sounds messed up what they got stuck with.

I think this is trending towards positive progress for high school soccer in TN. Grace needs some more frequent competition anyway.

    • Yea I agree I will say tho I was a big “ v “ fan if an  opening ever did happen I think it would’ve been good to see him have a shot coming from a power house like Oakland. I’m sure he’s learned a lot from Kevin.  I bet he would bring a really good offense scheme IMO But after all this I just dunno anymore.  Whatever happens with the rumors an such if it did come to and opening I think this messes it all up.  The board members dreams are slowly slipping away now. I haven’t lived there for awhile I just hear what I hear, but my question is would there be any good potential candidates?? That’s why I don’t understand why people want b s out so bad who else could do any better ?? IMO there’s nothing attractive about it? As I stated earlier I went to the last game last year and taking a leak in a porta Potty is pretty sad and still nothing being done they say ..

    • speaking of board members how can a man get arrested 12 days ago and still be head coaching a team in TC school system? looks like your right about the tc board members. I bet it would be different if they had a kid on the team
