Same order for me. Should be an entertaining season, with no clear cut front-runner. Powell and Karns certainly have a long way to go.

I'm surprised Powell is where they are. It's crazy to think about. And four straight away games to start this season, with a trip to Cumberland County? Sheesh.

They are playing Halls, Cumberland County and Lenoir City as non region games.  I would have liked to have seen them continue playing local teams Knoxville Central and Gibbs instead of playing Cumberland County and Lenoir City for those non-region games, but I understand why they aren't.  While the gates won't be very good for Cumberland County and Lenoir City, they will have an opportunity compete in those games and have a decent chance for a win, and that program just needs wins right now.

I am still furious at the position the guy from Chattanooga put that program in during his season there.  The program still hasn't been able to dig themselves out from the hole he put them in.

Powell has a few nice athletes. I've seen them in 7 on 7 twice.

Getting better.  But the cupboard was just decimated when Rodney took over.  The private schools have hammered - and still are - the zone throughout the "annual" coaching changes of 2011-15 and are still hitting the feeder program hard.

But like I have said all along, I am all for parental choice in education.  It has just hurt Powell more through the instability of the coaching situation over the past few years more than it has some of the other public schools in Knox County.

That said,  Rodney is doing a better job of giving those young guys and their parents a reason to stay in zone.

Campbell County, Powell, and Karns played at Central last night. Any news on how they all did? I heard Campbell County did pretty well.

CC beat Halls 16-0 , Powell beat AE 14-0 and I think Karns tied 7-7 with whoever they played.

Campbell County had a slow start, but finished strong.  Powell really looked good against Austin East.  I'm picking them to beat Halls since Halls is way down.  I left before the Karns - Carter quarter.  Rutherford lived up to his preseason billing, but Campbell County is still going to struggle against teams with speed.  If Powell can stay healthy, they will compete for the 3rd and 4th spots in the playoffs.

    • I used to think like that many many moons ago.  I wondered the same questions but learned that it is just not that easy.  Hiring assistant coaches can be complicated at times.  It takes a few years for HC’s to get who they feel is right for their system.  Couple that with good assistant coaches getting better jobs at times and leaving your program. More to it than some think.  I think you have a good coach up there and time will tell that story.
    • okay.  Like i said initially, it's question we have to ask, but we sure don't know the answer yet.
    • You’re right, I shouldn’t jump the gun on it. Hopefully it isn’t related to the sports programs, because it’ll end up affecting a lot of innocent kids who just enjoy playing sports.
    • I totally agree but just don’t want to see people jumping the gun by insinuating it was for athletic reasons. Nobody knows at the moment except for those involved in the incident itself and those investigating.
    • Bruh, That portion of the post was simply a product of my imagination. Try to keep up.  The real purpose of the post was to rub salt in this fresh wound following FF’s departure to BGA.
