2017 Class 2A Coaches Poll: Murphy Fair Magazine

Recommended Posts

2A Coaches Preseason Poll

As part of the content of Tennessee High School Football, coaches are asked to list six teams in their particular classification they feel have the best chance of reaching the BlueCross Bowl in Cookeville in December. Votes are then tabulated and teams are ranked. We list the Top 10 in each class (Top 3 in Division II classes) based on those rankings. Teams must score six or more points to be ranked. Here are the preseason 2A rankings according to coaches. Numbers in parenthesis reflect first place votes. All coaches did NOT participate in the voting.

2A

1. Union City (8)

2. Adamsville (2)

3. Marion Co. (4)

4. Trousdale Co. (3)

5. Waverly Cent. (1)

6. Peabody (2)

7. Mitchell

8. Tyner Acad. (1)

9. Forrest (tie)

9. Lewis Co. (tie)

Also receiving votes, in order: Columbia Acad.

The missing pole has been found. This pole was found last night in Jasper.  I heard those folks from there got mad when that Mathis man was not on top of Murphy's pole.  Thanks to PegLeg for getting this pole flown back to Murphy so he could put it on his website and include it in his 30th anniversary book.

I'd be amazed if there are 4 better football teams in the state than Waverly in 2A.  Region 7 has 3 that are capable of beating Waverly but only 1 of them will reach the state semifinals.  They would have beaten Marion County last year by 2-3 scores.  I mean no disrespect to the boys in purple but Waverly was the only team in 2A last year that could have competed against Trezevant's team of Rhodes Scholars.

I have seen on here about the great QB and great RB Waverly has. But will they be able to keep teams from scoring. if I remember correctly didn't they have a heavy senior class defense. Just wondering.

No disrespect taken but you have to realize that Waverly lost to Trez without a Div 1 rb in Richardson. Our game was a 6 point game halfway through the 4th qtr.

I think Donovan Stewart's poll is more accurate honestly. We aren't the 3rd best team in the state just like sp isn't the #1 team in 1A.

    • Well, your Big Western Hunt better turn up some Zebras to come graze on the Stones to make the jungle gametime ready again and make sure the plumber bros. still will come service the facilities at the Mecca. I hope your weekend is Fowl. Tell Rip hello from the Five Oh. Maybe the Gravedigger will catch a ride with Alphaniner on a flyover soon to BNA.
    • It’s not hearsay, just patently false. As one of those young coaches he apparently “ran off”, coach never once ridiculed or degraded anyone. Sure he challenged kids and coached them very hard,  but we have different definitions of you call that degrading. Coach Hammontree changed my life when he gave me the chance to work for him. I learned more about being a man and caring for the people around me in 4 years working for him than I did in 20 years of my life. No one sacrificed more than he did. I left Heritage because I felt there would never be the support necessary to help the program succeed. I’m tired of hearing people drag others down especially those they truly don’t know. Coach has moved on and a new coach is there. Just let the man live and root for the team.
    • Waiting on the Great One.   White Horse and Rip have a big weekend in the woods, and the Sheriff is working the overtime here.      Turkey season awaits…..Big Gobblers everywhere.
