So does anyone know if Boyce and Wiseman are eligible? East losing Moss doesnt hurt them talent wise bc those freshman are scary good. Congrats to ALO by the way, really happy for the kid.

I thought Bruce guy was going to TPA but ive seen him practicing with Cordova along with transfer - one of the bouncy bigs that went to Ridgeway last year, so tyler isnt as lonely as many assumed he would be over there.

Southwind may somewhat fill a void with adding Mark Johnson so I would expect Edward's group to compete and be good as usual.

Whitehaven will be better hopefully, Matthew Murrell will be the star of that team he has a grit that Cameron Jones just doesnt have even as a senior. Dont be surprised if Murrell is a top 40 player when its all said and done.

Overall, the race for the #2 spot in Regioin 8 AAA should be interesting.

Mark Johnson is no longer at Southwind.

Southwind goes as Mark Freeman goes.

Two Memphis East basketball players have been ruled ineligible for the 2017-18 season after the TSSAA determined Wednesday the school had violated the state's "prior link" rule for transfers.

Though the statement does not name the players, there are two who have moved to East and had a prior athletic connection with East head coach Penny Hardaway: Ryan Boyce and James Wiseman.

Over the summer, both Boyce, who signed with UAB on Monday, and Wiseman, a top-five national recruit in the class of 2019, played for Team Penny, a Memphis-based grassroots organization that Hardaway began sponsoring in 2012.

The under-17 team that both Boyce and Wiseman played on this year was coached by former Arkansas star and NBA player Todd Day.

The rule states that if a student with an athletic record transfers to a new school where an athletic coaching link existed within the previous 12 months, than that student is ineligible at his new school.

East will appeal the decision during a meeting of the TSSAA's executive council Thursday at 3 p.m. Attempts to reach Hardaway and East principal Dr. Marilyn Hilliard were unsuccessful Wednesday.

Boyce transferred from Houston while Wiseman played last season at Nashville Ensworth. Both were expected to play big roles for the two-time defending Class AAA champs, ranked preseason No. 1 nationally by at least two media outlets in the preseason.

The 6-11 Wiseman is considered by some outlets to be the top-ranked national prospect in the class of 2018 while Boyce, an outstanding athlete with a high motor, was expected to replace the highly-regarded T.J. Moss, who transferred to Findlay Prep in Nevada for his senior season.

    • From my understanding, Jay Graham pretty much took over HC responsibilities in that game, so you can thank him. Cute Andy didn’t need help, though. Cute Andy could’ve beaten us without any assistant coaches.
    • Tax payer dollars are paid for certified teachers to "teach" and then coach. The primary job is to teach.  There are some district that ay awesome supplements and others that don't. Dyersburg and Dyer County are pretty close if I remember correctly. I would imagine that Football and basketball are above $10,000 now.  I've heard that Milan is $20,000 for boys basketball. I would imagine that football is more than that in Milan.  Collierville has camps that coaches get paid extra for. 3 camps a year, 100 kids a camp, $30,000 right there.  There are places like Memphis-Shelby County schools where the supplements are garbage even for the head coaches. I made less than $3,000 as the head assistant at Germantown in 2015 when we were 26-4 and one of the best teams in the Southeast. As a head middle school coach next year I will make between $4-5,000 at a municipal in Shelby County.  Coaches should be compensated for the jobs that are required but lets keep in mind that they are educators first.  It's pretty frustrating to other teachers that work their tale off teaching 6-7 classes a day to watch someone roam campus, not teach (or have very minimal responsibilities), and get paid the same (more with supplements) as a person who has the some years of experience or sometimes less.
    • This will get coaches leaving the profession very quickly if this kid wins this case. This is absurd...
    • yeah money aint right there anymore
