Parent yes, student NO.

Only parent I have ever seen thrown out was two MOTHERS.  One for ragging the Football Coach for his incompetence, and one for ragging on the Cheer leading Coach.  That one on the Cheer coach WAS funny!  And deserved on both parts for the Mom of a football player ragging the Cheer coach.  The Coach should have been thrown out also.

Can you tell I was just sitting back eating my popcorn and enjoying the SHOW!  LOL

Giving the refs to much power. Now they can control the game they are in and future games they will not be at. All for more $$$ for TSSAA. This will not be as much of a problem at Football games as it will Baseball and Softball, but could cause real problems with these sports.

This is the epitome of stupid. To legislate the punishment of a minor (and his/her team) for the actions of another is Ludacris. It's the home teams responsibility to provide security for games, NOT the TSSAA, so why on earth would they even consider monetary restitution to themselves necessary? The schools pay a membership fee to be associated with, and adhere to the rules of TSSAA, and in turn receive (in theory) benefits...private citizens have no such affiliation, they simply are charged an admission fee. For the TSSAA to hold a minor's eligibility financially responsible for "$500.00 ransom" is just moronic...technically, minors aren't legally responsible for themselves.

Voted to table proposed addition to Article III, Section 10 (Unsportsmanlike Conduct) of the TSSAA/TMSAA Bylaws until March and asked the staff to rewrite it and send to member school.

If a fan is ejected from an athletic contest, the school will be given a choice of removing the fan for a minimum of the next two contests or fined $500.00 and face further disciplinary action. If a fan is ejected from an athletic contest, and the fan is a relative of a student-athlete participating in the contest, the school will be given a choice of removing the student-athlete and the fan for a minimum of the next two contests or fined $500.00 and face further disciplinary action.

Saw this on the legislative agenda for the TSSAA.

  1. Proposed Addition to Article III, Section 10 (Unsportsmanlike Conduct) of the TSSAA/TMSAA Bylaws:
If a fan is ejected from an athletic contest, the school will be given a choice of removing the fan for a minimum of the next two contests or fined $500.00 and face further disciplinary action. If a fan is ejected from an athletic contest, and the fan is a relative of a student-athlete participating in the contest, the school will be given a choice of removing the student-athlete and the fan for a minimum of the next two contests or fined $500.00 and face further disciplinary action.
Rationale:The TSSAA and its member schools believe strongly that the major purpose of athletics is to be a part of the total educational program. A major part of this purpose is to stress to coaches, players, officials, and fans the vital importance of sportsmanship. It is critical that everyone in each of these categories understand the major role model that they can be for others. Recognizing this principle, unsportsmanlike conduct on the part of these groups cannot be accepted. (Submitted by the TSSAA staff)

I am all in favor of the first part, but the second stipulation of suspending a student-athlete for the conduct of a relative who has been ejected from a game does seem to go to far. What say you Coach T Nation?

The 2nd part of this proposed rule is asinine! TSSAA has lost their everloving mind. Anyone who would agree or support punishing a student athlete for an adult's actions needs their head examined. To me that is borderline child abuse. Why should the kid be punished for someone else's actions or a referee with issues. If life were to imitate art, in the fictional movie "Hoosiers" where Shooter (alcoholic Dad) was ejected TSSAA feels it would be appropriate action to punish his son (good kid) as well. I strongly question whose interests are best being served by our great TSSAA. It sure isn't the student athlete! I guarantee you most school administrators do not support this and if they do they should be fired! The student athlete in this day and time are often used as pawns in the adults' childish games of self promotion & power.

Proposed Addition to Article III, Section 10 (Unsportsmanlike Conduct) of the TSSAA/TMSAA Bylaws
At the December meeting, the Council requested that the staff work on the language for this proposal and survey the schools.

 The amended proposal reads:
If a fan is ejected from an athletic contest, the school will be given a choice of removing the fan for a minimum of the next two contests or be fined $500.00 and face further disciplinary action.

Rationale:
The TSSAA and its member schools believe strongly that the major purpose of athletics is to be a part of the total educational program.

The state office surveyed schools to see if they would like to see fan ejections addressed by the TSSAA Bylaws.

    • QUICK UPDATE -  First, I see a lot of wrestling names that I recognize on that GoFundMe.  THANK YOU so much for helping this family.   After the long surgery on Sunday morning to repair his neck, Jacob suffered a collapsed lung.  Sometimes this happens after long surgeries.  They had to put him on a ventilator to get his breathing back on track.  He came off the vent on Monday morning and they put a BIPAP on him to help control his breathing.  As of today, Thursday, the BIPAP came off and he is breathing well on his own.  He is working towards drinking a glass of water and hopefully eating some solid food at some point in the near future. Jacob can "feel" when someone touches his legs, but there is still no movement.  His parents are beginning to prepare for him to be moved to the Shepherd Center in the next few days.  He will be there in Atlanta for 30-45 days.  Im sure he will receive excellent treatment. Please continue to pray for healing for him and if you are so moved, please contribute to the gofundme link above to help in any way you can.  The go fund me is doing well, but this is going to be a very long road for these guys Im afraid.. Thanks again! Sells
