Lodi Flames girls tennis is back.
The Flames reached the Sac-Joaquin Section semifinals for the first time since 2007 with a 6-3 victory over Armijo on Monday in Fairfield.
The only thing standing between Lodi and a trip to the section championship match is six-time defending champ St. Francis, the team that eliminated the Flames in ’07.
They will clash again on Wednesday at 2 p.m., with St. Francis playing host.
Lodi is seeking a return to its glory days of the early 2000s when the program reeled off three straight section titles from 2000-02.
Monday’s victory was a good start.
The Flames dominated singles play, sweeping all six matches in straight sets.
Audrey Simon defeated Laya Dasari 6-2, 6-3, Taylor Barajas beat Alex Castenada 6-1, 6-2, and Macy Barajas knocked off Leona Quinonez 6-1, 6-3.
Mikayla Kidd beat Mardy Bynum 6-0, 6-1, Julia Baffoni defeated Mercedes Uson 6-3, 7-5, and Raeni Sroufe bested Catlin Andersen 6-3, 6-3.
Armijo won all three doubles matches.
Molly Smith and Asatta Russell knocked off Citalli Lizarraga and Mia Salhi 6-0, 6-2, Kathleen Bolholst and Ariana Restua defeated Sam Smith and Mari Tassano 6-0, 6-3, and Denise Martinez and Linh Nguyan beat Kylie Denton and Holly Fyffe 7-4, 6-3.
