Menendez High School softball player Reagan Oakes was selected to play in the Queen of Diamonds Showcase South at Winthrop University.

Oakes scored 14 runs and hit .274 last season for the Falcons, who reached the Class 4A state playoffs for just the second time in program history. The left-handed senior also did some pitching.

On her club team, the St. Johns Prime in the northwest part of the county, Oakes plays first base. More than 2,000 players applied for one of 264 spots in the showcase, which will be held Sept. 3-4. Players compete over the two days in front of college coaches.
