Ponte Vedra golfers win regional titles

Ponte Vedra golfers captured both Region 2-2A titles Tuesday, and the Bartram Trail boys earned a spot in the state meet as well.

The Ponte Vedra girls were the most dominant. The team carded a 357 to run away with the regional title, finishing 19 strokes ahead of Matanzas at Palm Harbor.

Aleeya Peete led the charge with an 83, which was good for seventh overall. Baylee Vigil (90), Miri Sumida (91), Aisha Peete (93) and Lauren Brychell (98) followed for the Sharks. Bartram Trail freshman Ansley Bowman qualified as an individual after firing a 73, which was good for second.

Matanzas' Mary Rodgers and Timber Creek's Taylor Lyle each tallied a 73 to top the leaderboard.

In the boys competition, Ponte Vedra tallied a 302 as Bartram finished second at 310.

Chase Berlin was the top golfer for the Sharks, taking third at 1-over 73.

Bartram finished in second, just one stroke ahead of Timber Creek and Winter Park, to qualify for the state meet along with Ponte Vedra. The Bears' top golfer was Logan Lanier, who was second overall with a 72, two shots off the lead.

The two Ponte Vedra teams and the Bartram boys move on to the Class 2A state finals Nov. 1 at Mission Inn Resort and Club at Howey-in-the-Hills.
