Creekside volleyball team grows up, makes run to Class 5A semifinals

Intimidated, overmatched and just plain scared aren't quite the emotions you'd expect to hear from a state semifinal-bound volleyball team.

But that's exactly how Creekside players felt when they first arrived on campus four years ago with little idea of what they were getting in to.

"We were all just really little compared to everybody else, and scared, definitely scared," said middle blocker Erika Hinel, an Embry-Riddle signee.

"When we were freshman, we just wanted to survive. That was a scary, eye-opening event. We were just little freshmen going against these big juniors and seniors. We had to learn fast and adjust fast."

Four seasons later, the Knights (24-5) are in the Class 5A state semifinals, where they'll face Gulf Breeze (25-4) at noon Thursday in Kissimmee.
