Bishop Moore rolls over Bolles in Class 4A state semifinal

No trip to volleyball finals for Bulldogs after loss to Orlando team

KISSIMMEE - The elusive state championship match appearance remained just out of reach for the Bolles volleyball team again this season.

In their fourth consecutive state semifinal appearance, the Bulldogs fell 3-0 to powerhouse Orlando Bishop Moore on Wednesday at Silver Spurs Arena.

The nationally ranked Hornets (29-1) defeated Bolles 25-17, 25-20, 25-16 to advance to the Class 4A championship match for a rematch with Tampa Berkeley Prep, the only team to defeat Bishop Moore this season.

Berkeley Prep, a 25-22, 25-8, 23-25, 25-21 winner over Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons on Wednesday, has defeated Bishop Moore three times in the past two seasons, including in the state semifinals last year.

The Hornets used a balanced attack and precision passing to eliminate Bolles (23-8).

Outside hitter Lindsay Owens recorded 16 kills for the Hornets.

Senior Gabby Mallette led the Bulldogs with 11 kills, and senior Hannah Schellenberg had 12 digs.

Kendra Koetter had 20 assists for Bolles.

Bishop Moore trailed 8-6 in the second game, but a kill from Owens ignited a 6-1 scoring run.
