Boys Soccer Roundup: Bolles pulls out an overtime win over Episcopal in regional semifinals

Bolles coach Jim Lieb knew after two losses to a senior-laden, talent-packed Episcopal team, the Bulldogs' best chance to advance was to change their tactics against their district rival.

The plan worked and Bolles pulled out a 1-0 overtime victory over host Episcopal (20-2-1) in a Region 1-2A semifinal on Friday.

In the second minute of overtime, Bolles served a ball into the box and it wasn't immediately cleared. Instead, it bounced to the feet of the Bulldogs' Adam Demetree, and he drilled a shot into the top corner of the net to send Bolles to Tuesday's regional championship.

The Bulldogs (18-8-3) will travel to Pensacola Catholic.

Region 1-5A

Kacper Grzeszczak padded his season total to 22 goals and added an assist to help lead Mandarin to a 3-1 semifinal victory over visiting Gainesville Buchholz (18-3-1).

Grzeszczak took a pass from John Mella and chipped a shot over the keeper to put Mandarin up 2-0 in the first half.

Earlier, he ripped a shot that rebounded off the keeper's hands and Cody Wegener finished it.

Jeinson Gonzalez also scored for Mandarin, off an assist from Grzeszczak.

Mark Darling had six saves for the Mustangs (22-3-3), who advance to Tuesday's regional championship and will play host to Winter Park Lake Howell.

Region 1-4A

Brandon Behr's two goals paced Fleming Island to a 4-0 semifinal victory over visiting Spring Hill Springstead (19-3).

Cameron McCurry and Chris Cooksey also scored for the Golden Eagles (22-1), who recorded their 16th shutout of the season.

Fleming Island will travel to Tallahassee Chiles for Tuesday's regional championship.

Region 1-3A

Ponte Vedra rebounded from a one-goal deficit to oust visiting Stanton 2-1 and advance to the regional final.

With 16 minutes to play, Michael DellaPorta connected on a penalty kick to tie the game at 1-1, after Stanton (18-7-3) had converted a score off a corner kick in the second half.

Casey Macias put the Sharks ahead with six minutes play, and they held on to earn a berth in Tuesday's championship game.

The Sharks (16-7-1) will travel to Fort Walton Beach Choctawhatchee.

Region 1-1A

St. Joseph earned the program's first regional championship berth with a 5-0 victory over visiting Oviedo Master's Academy (19-6-1).

Will Jones had a hat trick and Matt Volk and Kyle Vrban added one goal each for the Flashes (13-4-1).

St. Joseph will play host to Mayo Lafayette on Tuesday.
