SPARTANGURG, S.C. – Chattanooga volleyball's Lauren Gainer (Boca Raton, Fla.) was named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week Wednesday by the league's office.

The junior led Chattanooga to a 3-1 week, including a second place finish in the Scenic City Showdown over the weekend at Maclellan Gym.  Gainer earned All-Tournament honors at the Showdown, totaling 22 kills and a team-leading 10 blocks.  On the week, the middle blocker averaged 2.23 kills per set and blocked 12 opposing attacks.

Academically, Gainer boasts a 3.6 grade point average.  The exercise science major was a 2013-14 Academic All-SoCon honoree, carrying a 3.82 GPA over last year, and was named to both the Dean's List and Athletic Director's Honor Roll both semesters.  She was also named to the 2013-14 SoCon Honor Roll.

Gainer and the Mocs are back in action this weekend to take on Samford and ETSU at Maclellan Gym to open up SoCon play.  Friday's match against the Bulldogs is set for 6 p.m., while Saturday's meeting is scheduled for 3 p.m.
