Brevard HS notes: District tournaments begin, Jace Carter sets school record

Girls district basketball tournaments begin Tuesday, while soccer tournaments for boys and girls began Monday with a few first-round meetings.
In girls basketball, top-seeded Palm Bay hosts District 8-5A, and the championship will be Friday at 7 p.m. Covenant Christian, the top seed in 12-2A, is the only other Brevard host. That final will also be Friday at 7.
Viera and Melbourne play in District 5-6A, and that final will be Friday at the home of top-seeded St. Cloud. Port Orange Atlantic (9-4A) and Fort Pierce John Carroll (12-2A) are other hosts, and both finals will be Friday at 7.

In girls soccer, Melbourne, Bayside, Satellite and MCC will be Brevard hosts. The district 13-5A final will be Thursday at 6 at Bayside. Satellite (11-4A) and MCC (10-3A) will host championship games at 7 on Feb. 8. The District 12-6A final will be Feb. 9 at Melbourne.
Eau Gallie hosts boys District 13-5A soccer. The final will be Thursday at 6.
Rockledge will host boys District 11-4A soccer at McLarty Stadium, and the final will be Feb. 9 at 7 at McLarty, while Holy Trinity will host 10-3A the same night at 6.

Carter eclipses school scoring record
When Astronaut High senior basketball player Jace Carter scored 28 points to lead his team to a 70-36 win over Bayside on Friday, he became the most prolific War Eagles player ever.
Carter passed 2,000 career points, reaching 2,019, the most by any Astronaut boy ever. The War Eagles improved to 18-2 in the process. Logan Brabham's 12 led the Bears.
