Prep Roundup: Staff's last-second basket lifts Wolf Pack to victory

Dante Staff hit a game-winning three-point basket with five seconds left to play to propel the West Port boys basketball team to a 62-60 win over DeLand in the District 2-7A quarterfinals on Tuesday night at Lake Mary High School.

Jerek Evans scored 16 points and Cris Arrieta had 13 to lead the Wolf Pack scoring attack. Staff finished with eight points.

"We drove it into the paint and then kicked it out to (Dante)... He was the open man, and he knocked it down," West Port head coach Lyle Livengood said of Staff's go-ahead shot.

With the win, the Wolf Pack will now move on to Wednesday night's district semifinals where they will face Seminole at 7 p.m. at Lake Mary High School.

Lake Minneola 46, Vanguard 42: The Vanguard boys basketball team saw its season come to an end with a close loss to the Hawks in the District 5A-5 quarterfinals.

Aaron James Jr. (16 points) and Lionel Manning (14 points) paced Vanguard (8-8).

Seven Rivers 75, Meadowbrook 68: Coy Sizemore (29 points), Matt Dersch (17 points) and LT Sizemore (10 points) led the Mustangs as Meadowbrook fell to the Warriors.
