Playoff soccer, basketball: LCS girls, Winter Haven girls cruise

Lakeland Christian needed just one half to defeat Pierson Taylor 8-0 on Friday night in the Class 3A, Region 2 girls soccer quarterfinals at Viking Stadium.

Lakeland Christian will play The Villages (11-5) in the regional semifinals on Friday.

Eden Guynn scored first, then Maddie Lopez, Carly Sabat and Kaelyn Diaz each scored twice. 

Emma Riggs also scored and added an assist.

Katie Carnes chipped in with two assists, while Ava Wood, Katie Williams, Lily, Diaz and Sabat had one assist each.

Class 6A, Region 3

George Jenkins 2, St. Cloud 1

LAKELAND — With about nine minutes left in the match, Jenna Daniel scored back-to-back goals about a minute apart to lead the Eagles into the regional semifinals.

George Jenkins (10-7-1) will play New Smyrna Beach (9-7-1) on Friday at 7 p.m. at Jenkins.

McKenna Kham and Lexi Aqui had assists for the Eagles.

St. Cloud scored about a minute after Daniel's second goal, but the Eagles then controlled the ball the rest of the way.

Class 5A, Region 2

Lake Wales 2, Sumner 1

LAKE WALES — The Highlanders scored both goals in the first half then held on for the win.

Bailey Dykes scored midway through the first half on a breakaway, and Chanley Pfingston scored off an indirect kick from Alicia Kralik.

Sumner scored on a breakaway in the second half.

Auburndale 1, Robinson 0

TAMPA — Auburndale staggered into the regional semifinals with a costly win over Robinson.

Peyton Batilla scored the game's only goal. Emma Crawford led a solid defensive effort.

The Bloodhounds, who will face Lake Wales on Friday, are now missing their top two scorers.

Brianna Brudy injured her shoulder and could be out for the season, head coach Tawanke Kaseke said. Brooke Stubbs-Smith injured her hamstring last week and is out for the season. Madison Houlihan also is out with an injury.

Class 3A, Region 2

Lakeland Christian 4, Taylor 1

LAKELAND — Rally Fox scored three goals, and Carson Hoben scored once to lead the Vikings over Taylor.

LCS (13-7-1) will play in the regional semifinals on Friday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Winter Haven 64, St. Cloud 39

WINTER HAVEN — Trinity Hardy and Kayla Smith each scored 14 points to lead Winter Haven over St. Cloud.

The Blue Devils advanced to the 6A-2 regional finals at Seffner Armwood on Friday.

Winter Haven stormed to a 25-6 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. The Blue Devils held St. Cloud to under 10 points in three of the four quarters.

Jasmine Peaks scored nine points, and Akai Edward scored seven points.

Class 6A, Region 2

Palm Bay 62, Lake Wales 22

The Highlanders end their season at 13-6.

Armwood 66, George Jenkins 49

The Eagles end their season at 17-5.
