Defending state champion Lake Highland Prep continues its march toward a return trip to the girls basketball state tournament Friday night as the No. 1 team in the national MaxPreps rankings.
The undefeated Highlanders (16-0) play at home for the final time this season in the Class 4A Region 2 championship game vs. Crystal River (19-3) at 7 p.m. LHP has won 32 consecutive games since losing 56-55 last year vs. Montverde Academy.
Sophomore Eleecia Carter has accounted for 11.6 points per game while senior Kayla Blackshear is averaging 10.4 points and 5.4 rebounds this season. Junior Nyla Harris leads the team in rebounds (7.8 per game) and is averaging 11.1 points.
Foundation Academy (15-7) hosts Kissimmee City of Life (13-6) in a Class 2A regional final in the only matchup Friday involving two area teams. Timber Creek, Oak Ridge, Wekiva, Jones and The Master’s Academy each go on the road.
Admission to regional tournament games is $7.
FHSAA state semifinal and state final games are scheduled for Feb. 24-27 at Lakeland’s RP Funding Center.
