Rattlers' Davis pitches third-straight complete game

Brendan Davis (3-0) threw his third-consecutive complete game in as many starts as the Belleview baseball team improved to 1-1 in District 5-5A with a 5-2 win over Lecanto on Thursday night at Belleview High School. 

Davis finished with 15 strikeouts while holding the Yellow Jackets to no earned runs on just two hits and two walks.

"He has been on all season, and simply just doesn't waver," Belleview head coach Lanny Abshier said.

Camden Abshier and Brendan Ness each had RBI singles to spark the Belleview offense. 

Dillon Shealy, Brendan Demonico, and Eliel Martinez all had hits for the Rattlers (4-2, 1-1 in District 5-5A) who host Gainesville High School on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

Forest 11, Crystal River 1: At Crystal River, Ty Moody struck out nine over five innings to pick up the win for the Wildcats.  

Tyler Rogers finished with two hits, an RBI, two runs scored, and two stolen bases. Trevor Murray had two hits and scored two runs. 

Forest (3-3) hosts Dunnellon on Friday at 7 p.m.

Redeemer Christian 22, St. John Lutheran 17: At St. John, the Lions trailed the Saints 16-1 after two innings, then roared back to outscore St. John 21-1 the rest of the way.

Jonah Boyer (1-0) was the winning pitcher after taking the mound in the second inning and going 4 1/3 strong innings. Boyer gave up only one run on four hits and four walks.

Craigee Breach (2-for-5, double, triple, walk, three runs scored, five RBIs), Charles Phillips (2-for-4, two runs scored, three stolen bases), and Asher Greenberg (3-for-4, three runs scored, two walks) led the way offensively for Redeemer which was the home team in Thursday's game. The Lions are playing all of their home games this season at St. John. 

Redeemer (3-1, 2-0 in District 2-2A) hosts Gainesville Oak Hall on Friday at 5 p.m.

SOFTBALL

Trinity Catholic 11, Vanguard 0: At Trinity Catholic, Emma Wyman pitched a five-inning, one-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts as the Celtics rolled.

At the plate, Trinity Catholic received its offensive production from Kaylee Oliver (2-for-3, double, triple, two RBIs), Danni Triviola (2-for-2, double, three stolen bases) and Wyman (triple, two RBIs, two stolen bases).

Trinity Catholic plays at Orlando Christian Academy on Friday at 4 p.m.

The Villages 14, North Marion 3: At The Villages, Katelyn Helton (3-for-3, two runs), Annalise Hernandez (1-for-1, two sacrifice bunts), and Hope Bennett (2-for-2, run scored) paced the Colts in the loss.

North Marion (3-4) hosts Dunnellon on Friday at 7 p.m. 

GIRLS TENNIS

Forest 5, Vanguard 2: At Tuscawilla Park, Abby Smallridge won her singles match, 8-0, for the Wildcats. 

Thursday's win improves Forest's record to 8-1 overall, and according to the fifth-year head coach Lori Croy, this season's Wildcats team is off to one of their best starts in a while.

"We have a very strong lineup one through five," Croy said. 

"Normally in years past, you see a strong one and two, and then by the time you get to five in your lineup, you start to see some weaknesses. This season so far, our top-5 is very strong."

Forest plays Belleview at 4 p.m. Monday at Coehadjoe Park.

Forest 7, Vanguard 0: At Tuskawilla, Harrison Schwartzberg, Ethan Joyce, Zack Miller and Noah Reidle all got wins in both singles and doubles.

Forest (3-2) will play Dunnellon on Tuesday at Coehadjoe Park at 4 p.m.

FLAG FOOTBALL

Belleview 49, Vanguard 0: At Vanguard, Madison Douglas ran for three touchdowns and had a touchdown reception as the Rattlers dismantled the Knights Thursday at Booster Stadium. 

Sophia Spata threw for two touchdowns and ran for another, Autumn Kennard had a TD catch, and Tia Dantzler had an interception return for a touchdown.

Douglas also led the way on defense for the Rattlers with eight sacks. Emma Brantley finished with 10 tackles, and Hannah Collett had nine tackles.

Belleview (2-0) travels to North Marion on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. start.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

HEART 49, Tri State Christian Academy 22: At the NACA Tournament, in Dayton, Tenn., the HEART Homeschool Falcons are headed to the NACA championship game with their win Thursday over the Crusaders.

Brianna Garcia (24 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals), Alyssa Keister (10 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists), and Abbey Keister (8 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals) led the way for the Falcons. 

HEART (19-7) hits the court for Friday's NACA championship game at 2 p.m. against an opponent yet to be determined.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Georgia Cumberland Academy 53, HEART 49: At the NACA Tournament, in Dayton, Tenn., the HEART Falcons were paced by Mike Lusher (16 points, 6 rebounds, 1 block), Josh King (14 points, 2 steals, 4 assists), and Kyle Warner (11 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist) in Thursday's tournament game loss.

The Falcons (10-8) continue tournament play Friday at 9:30 a.m.
