Mount Dora Christian Academy’s baseball team will be the first to take the field this week at FHSAA state championships at CenturyLink Sports Complex in Fort Myers.
The Bulldogs (22-6) face Orange Park’s St Johns Country Day (23-6) in a Class 2A semifinal Wednesday at 10 a.m. The winner will play either Sarasota’s Out-of-Door Academy (22-3) or Lake Worth Trinity Christian (17-7-2) in a Thursday state final.
MDCA is vying for the school’s second state championship this spring after the track and field team claimed the Class 1A team title earlier this month in Jacksonville. Mount Dora Christian’s softball team plays in a state semifinal in Clermont on Tuesday.
Florida High School Athletic Association baseball state tournaments take place Wednesday through Saturday in Class 7A, 6A, 2A and 1A and May 24-26 for Class 5A, 4A and 3A. Admission is $9 per day in advance and $12 on day of event. Parking is $10. Tickets are available exclusively online via the GoFan app. The NHFS Network is streaming all games.
Senior Ty’Quan Wiggins is batting .487 with 31 RBI and 12 extra-base hits for MDCA. And sophomores Collin Priest and Dallas Dale have combined for 83 runs scored, 54 RBI and 16 home runs.
In regional championship games this week, Bishop Moore (15-12) plays at Brooksville Nature Coast (23-4) in Class 4A and The First Academy (27-1) plays at Tampa Berkeley Prep (24-4) in 3A. Winners of those games move on to Monday state semifinal outings in Fort Myers.
