Southwest Florida Christian Academy has hired assistant coach Mike Klossner to replace JW Wilkerson as the head baseball coach.

Wilkerson built a very successful program in his seven years at the helm, racking up three 20-plus win seasons and multiple regional playoff appearances. Wilkerson is leaving SFCA, headed to his hometown of Bluffton, S.C., to teach and become the head baseball coach at Hilton Head Christian Academy.

Klossner comes with a strong pedigree of baseball experience. He played at Charlotte High School under current FGCU head baseball coach Dave Tollett, where he was named the defensive player of the year his senior year. He went on to play collegiately at Tusculum College in Greenville, Tenn., where he was the starting shortstop and had a career batting average of .303.

He then spent 9 years at Desoto High School, 4 years as an assistant coach and 5 years as the head coach before leaving to come to SFCA, where he has spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach.

“We had a strong pool of applicants as the SFCA baseball tradition is becoming well known," SFCA athletic director Mike Marciano said. "What separated Mike from the rest was that he checked all the boxes: he has a personal relationship with our Savior, he has head coaching experience, and is completely 'all in' with the school community.

"Mike has his two daughters in the school and is willing to serve in any role needed to get the job done. At the end of the day, SFCA will never compromise our mission to serve our families with Christian teachers and coaches. While many may seek to find 'the big name', we know that honoring Jesus in all that we do will bring the right people and the wins will follow.”

Klossner added, “I am very blessed and humbled to be named the head baseball coach at Southwest Florida Christian Academy. I am excited to continue to build on the success that Coach Wilkerson has brought to the SFCA baseball program over the last 7 years.  SFCA is FAMILY, and I am very thankful for this opportunity and looking forward to making a lifelong impact on those who are a part of the SFCA baseball family.”
