CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WCYB) — The celebration for ETSU men's golf will have to wait another day as play has been suspended in the final round at the Chapel Hill Men’s Golf Regional.
After two days, the Bucs hold a three-stroke lead over Clemson and sit at the top of the leaderboard - almost solidifying a ticket to the NCAA Championships barring any dramatic downfall. The Bucs, who have all five of their golfers on the course, are two-under on the round and sit atop the team leaderboard at 23-under-par. ETSU’s golfers were on holes 2-thru-5 when play was suspended.
Due to rainy conditions over the last two days, the tournament was forced to pick up the second round early Tuesday morning, which was able to be completed. But shortly into the third round play, officials suspended in the late afternoon after a final stoppage just shy of noon.
The top five teams of the regional and low individual from a non-advancing team will advance to the NCAA Championship. ETSU will be looking to play in its fourth straight NCAA Championship with this year’s field set to play at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa from May 24-29 in Carlsbad, Calif.
The third round is scheduled to resume Wednesday morning at 7:30 a.m. from UNC’s Finley Golf Course.
