Panthers drop pair to Riley County

RILEY — Surrendering 25 runs in two games, the Concordia High School baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Riley County on Friday.
Concordia fell 13-3 in five innings in the first game of the twinbill and 12-1 five innings in the second game.
“That is what happens when we don't play well. Not only did we not make the critical plays, we just weren't as focused as we should have been,” Concordia coach Brandt Hutchinson said, “We can't play poorly against a good team and expect to win.”
Trailing 1-0, the Panthers scored three runs in the top of the second inning in game one.
Tryston Jochems walked to lead off the inning and Hunter Schroeder was hit by a pitch with one out.
Chase Parker then hit a three-run home run to put Concordia up 3-1.
Three runs in the bottom of the third inning put Riley County on top to stay, 4-3.
The Falcons tacked on seven runs in the fourth inning and two in the fifth to end the game because of the 10-run rule.
Concordia was shut out on one hit over the final three innings.
The Panthers loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the third inning, but were unable to score.
Chase Parker pitched the first three innings in suffering the loss. He gave up four runs on two hits, struck out four and walked three.
Chas Carlgren allowed seven runs, five earned, on four hits in two-thirds of an inning.
Schroeder worked a third of an inning, and Nick Vignery finished up.
The Panthers were limited to two hits.
Riley County scored all 12 of its runs in the second game in the first two innings.
Wyatt Trost led off the top of the third inning with a single. He stole second and scored on a base hit by Chas Carlgren to make it a 12-1 game.
The Panthers were scoreless over the final two innings.
Gavin Thomas took the loss. He gave up eight runs, three earned, on two hits, struck out two and walked two in one inning.
Jacob Williams pitched an inning and a third and allowed four runs, three earned, on one hit. He struck out one and walked five.
Jochems did not allow a run in an inning and two-thirds. He struck out two and walked one.
Carlgren had two of Concordia's five hits.
The Panthers open North Central Kansas League play by hosting Wamego on Tuesday.
