Franklin County's Charley Evans cradles Brainerd's Ka'Nia Foster for a pin during a meet Thursday at Marion County High School. Evans had a pinfall victory and two forfeit wins at the meet.
The Franklin County High School boys and girls wrestling teams competed in a meet Thursday at Marion County High School against the teams of Marion County, Brainerd and Tyner Academy.
The Lady Rebels won all three of their duals for the day by equal scores of 24-0 with only one actual match occurring due to a lack of girls wrestlers on opposing teams.
Charley Evans recorded a pinfall victory against Ka’Nia Foster in 1:52 for the 114-pound division to secure points in the dual against Brainerd. Alyssa Archer, Kaylee Coker and Kaylin Hill also notched forfeit wins for the matchup.
Archer, Coker, Evans and Hill also each had forfeit victories by default against Tyner Academy and Marion County.
Tyner Academy and Brainerd also had a low number of boys wrestlers at the meet with the Rebels beating both decisively as a result.
The Rebels topped the Brainerd Panthers by a score of 54-6 with Shannon Stovall, Cristian Fravel, William Roberts, Cooper Stevens, Kaiden Odell, Aaryn Finchum, Jathan Payne, Zaelyn Smith and Levi Bridges recording forfeit victories.
The Rebels also beat the Tyner Academy Rams by a score of 48-12 with forfeit wins being claimed by Bridges, Stovall, Fravel, Roberts, Stevens, Odell, Finchum and Zaelyn Smith. Zaelyn Smith also took on Tyner’s Jamariel Ballard in an exhibition match and won via pinfall in 4:16.
However, the Rebels were beaten in turn by the hosting Marion County Warriors by a final score of 62-18.
All of the Rebels’ points for the dual came via forfeit victories with Stevens, Zaelyn Smith and Stovall being the beneficiaries. The Warriors claimed all of the remaining points for the day.
The FCHS boys and girls wrestling teams will next compete Saturday in the Red Hawk Rampage tournament at Stewarts Creek High School. The tournament is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
