National Prep Football Poll - Final 2011
By Jamie DeMoney

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa -- Don Bosco (Ramsey, N.J.) will end the 2011 season ranked in the same position it started the season: No. 1.

The Ironmen regained the nation's top ranking due in large part to an overall advantage in strength of schedule -- a factor that was greatly enhanced when No. 10 Manatee (Bradenton) won the Florida Class 7A title by 40 points on Friday. Manatee is one of three teams Don Bosco beat that were in the Top 25 at some point this season.

The National Prep Football Poll is compiled by XOS Digital PlayerOnDemand National Reports Director Jamie DeMoney with input from sportswriters, experts, and coaches. The national Top 25 and regional Top 10's follow with final won-loss records:

FEATS OF THE WEEK: For the second time in three seasons, the final No. 1 ranking in the National Prep Poll belongs to Ramsey, N.J., Don Bosco. Despite not playing the final two weekends of the season, the Ironmen regained the top spot over previous No. 1 Louisville, Ky., Trinity, thanks to a large boost in their strength of schedule when No. 10 Bradenton, Manatee hammered previously undefeated Jacksonville, First Coast, 40-0, for the Florida Class 7A championship. On Sept. 16, Don Bosco defeated Manatee on its home field, 22-16. The Ironmen also beat preseason Top-25 teams Mission Viejo, Calif., and Lakewood, Ohio, St. Edward by a combined margin of 73-14 and had three other wins over current or regionally ranked teams. In the 4A-II final, regionally ranked Aledo senior running back Johnathan Gray broke the national record for career touchdowns as his team beat Manvel, 49-28, for its third straight title. The Cavaliers are the first Texas team to ever win five straight state championships. ... The 5A-I final saw 2004-05 Prep Poll champion Southlake Carroll become only the second team to ever win eight state titles. The No. 6 Dragons beat Missouri City, Hightower, 36-29. ... In California, the Open Division state title went to No. 11 Concord, Calif., De La Salle, a six-time Prep Poll titlist.
