Calif., Santa Margarita took over the No. 1 spot in the rankings after
pummeling Carson, 72-0. Senior Ryan Wolpin (uncommitted) ran for six touchdowns
as the Eagles opened a 65-0 halftime lead. Johnny Stanton (Nebraska) accounted
for three touchdowns a week after he broke current Oakland Raiders quarterback
Carson Palmer’s school record for total offense in a game with 610 yards
against Mission Viejo, Trabuco Hills. ... New Jersey’s top three teams had
statement wins against out-of-state powers. Oradell, Bergen Catholic jumped 15
spots in the rankings to No. 7 after a 42-35 road win over No. 23 Las Vegas,
Bishop Gorman. Regionally ranked Ramsey, Don Bosco beat then-No. 12 Fort
Lauderdale, Fla., St. Thomas Aquinas, 20-10, in an ESPN2-televised matchup of
teams that own two Prep Poll titles apiece since 2008. Regionally ranked
Montvale, St. Joseph Regional was a 62-0 victor against Westwood, Mass.,
Xaverian Brothers, which was the No. 2-ranked team in Boston-area rankings last
week. ... University of Oregon recruit Thomas Tyner of Beaverton, Ore., Aloha smashed
single-game state records with 643 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns in his
team’s 84-63 win against Lake Oswego, Lakeridge. ... A school record shared by
Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning fell when sophomore Jabiari Tyler
threw six touchdown passes to lead New Orleans, Newman to a 42-20 win against
Miller-McCoy. ... Junior Grant Sherman of Kenton, broke an Ohio record with 684
passing yards and tied the state mark of nine touchdown throws in a 66-42
defeat of Lima, Shawnee.
