FEATS OF THE WEEK: A national single-game
record for passing yards was set during Davidson, N.C., Davidson Day’s amazing
104-80 win over Harrells, Harrells Christian. Will Grier, Davidson Day’s junior
quarterback, threw for 837 yards along with 10 touchdowns. ... Drew Wolitarsky
of Canyon Country, Canyon broke the California record for career receptions
during his team’s 42-9 blowout of San Luis Obispo. Wolitarsky caught nine
passes in the game, pushing his career total to 272. The senior now holds the
career marks for receptions and receiving yardage, both previously held by
current St. Louis Rams receiver Steve Smith. ... Shuler Bentley of Duncan,
Byrnes broke the South Carolina record for passing touchdowns in a season
during his team’s 51-21 rout of Columbia, Spring Valley. Bentley had five
touchdown passes in the game, bringing his season total to 54 – one better than
the old mark set by former Byrnes signal caller Willy Korn. ... Thomas Tyner
(committed to Oregon) ran for 438 yards and five touchdowns to lift Beaverton,
Ore., Aloha over Hillsboro, Glencoe. ... Sioux Falls, S.D., Washington added to
its national-record total of state championships. The Warriors captured title
No. 39 (since 1905) with a 35-20 triumph over Brandon, Brandon Valley in the
Class 11AA final.
