FEATS OF THE WEEK: The national record for
career rushing yards was shattered by senior Derrick Henry of Yulee, Fla. Henry
ran for 482 yards and six touchdowns in his team’s 41-26 win against Perry,
Taylor County in the Class 4A playoffs. Henry’s career total is now 11,610
yards – 378 better than the old record of 11,232 yards held by Ken Hall of
Sugar Land, Texas, since 1953. The University of Alabama recruit has a
national-record 45 games with at least 100 rushing yards and went over 400
yards four times in 11 games this season. ... Deryk Kern of Westminster set the
Maryland single-season record for touchdown passes during a 62-28 playoff win
over Sherwood. Kern (uncommitted) threw six touchdown passes in the game –
along with running for another three – to bring his season total to 60. ...
What was the fourth longest active win streak in the nation (48 games) ended
when Mequon, Wis., Homestead shut out Waunakee, 14-0, for the Wisconsin
Division 2 state title. Meanwhile, Clairton, Pa., continues to own the longest
active streak in the U.S. The Bears tied a state record with their 59th
straight win with a 37-7 rout of New Castle, Neshannock in the Western Pa.
Class A semifinals. ... Robert Martin of Harrisburg, Pa., broke a District
3-AAAA quarterfinal record with 360 rushing yards in a 47-28 win over
Mechanicsburg, Cumberland Valley. The previous record of 358 yards was held by
current Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy.
