FEATS
OF THE WEEK: Henderson, Nev., Findlay became the fourth different
team to grab the No. 1 ranking in the National Prep Poll this season.
Senior guard Nigel Williams-Goss (a Washington recruit) sunk a
3-pointer with less than three seconds remaining to lift the Pilots
to a 62-59 win against No. 2 Montverde, Fla., Montverde Academy last
Monday at the HoopHall Classic in Springfield, Mass. With the win,
Findlay improved to 4-0 against current or former Top 25 teams.
Montverde Academy, which held the No. 1 spot for five weeks, is now
4-2 against current or former Top 25 foes. ... The other two teams
that were ranked No. 1 this season played a highly anticipated Public
League showdown at Chicago St. Senior guard Jaylon Tate (Illinois)
had 12 points and three assists to propel No. 4 Simeon –- the No. 1
team in the preseason Prep Poll –- to a 44-41 win against No. 5
Young, the top-ranked team last week. Junior forward L.J. Peak scored
a game-high 20 points in a losing effort for Young. ... Joel
Blumenthal, a senior guard who has committed to play quarterback next
year at Butler Community College (Kan.), scored 52 points to lead
Deer Creek, Okla., to a 69-66 win against Yukon. ... Junior guard
Ryan Kupferschmid drained 11 3-pointers and totaled 45 points as
Elkhart, Ind., Elkhart Christian routed Bremen, 80-59.
