National Prep Football Poll - Final

The National Prep Football Poll is compiled by high school sports experts Jamie DeMoney and Jeremy Plowman and a panel of sportswriters. The national Top 25 and regional Top 10's follow final with won-loss-tie records.

The National Prep Poll has been compiled weekly since 1987 and are the only national high school rankings distributed on the Associated Press national wire service.

FEATS OF THE WEEK: For the first time since 1990, the National Prep Poll champion resides in the high school football-crazy state of Texas. Junior kicker Kevin Ortega nailed a 41-yard field goal as time expired to give top-ranked Southlake, Carroll a 27-24 win over Spring Branch, Smithson Valley for the 5A/II championship. It was the Dragons' second state title in three years and fifth overall. A crowd of 26,955 watched the game at Texas Stadium . . . Carroll has gone 47-1 and appeared in the state championship in each of its first three years at the 5A level. This year's team defeated two teams (Denton Ryan and No. 23 Lufkin) that were ranked nationally when they met and another (Abilene) that finished regionally ranked. It joins Odessa, Permian (1989) and Aldine (1990) as the only Texas teams to win a National Prep Poll national championship. It is the seventh straight year that a Texas squad has finished in the final Top 10 . . . American Football Monthly national coach of the year Todd Dodge is 67-10 in five years at the school . . .
