FEATS OF THE WEEK: The Ohio prep football season started with a bang at the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown in Cincinnati. Seven games were played over three days, highlighted by No. 7 Cincinnati, Colerain's 21-3 defeat of two-time defending state champion Elder. Regionally ranked Lakewood, St. Edward also won 23-17 over then-regionally ranked Cincinnati, St. Xavier. About 20,000 fans attended the games, which took place at the University of Cincinnati's Nippert Stadium . . . Regionally ranked Durham, N.C., Southern used an inspired defensive effort to defeat Durham, Northern, 14-0. It was the Spartans' first win against their crosstown rival since 1973. Northern still leads the all-time series 37-4 . . . Buford, Ga., won its state record-tying 46th consecutive game, 41-7, over Dahlonega, Lumpkin County. The Wolves' winning streak matches the one compiled by Lilburn, Parkview from 2000-2003 . . . Wylie, Texas, defeated San Diego, Mira Mesa, 27-10, at the East Texas Classic in Tyler. It was a rare intersectional matchup between the two football-rich states. Copyright 2004 World Features Syndicate, Inc...endit
