FEATS OF THE WEEK: The 2005 season opened with No. 12 Charlotte, N.C., Independence extending the nation's longest current winning streak to 78 in a 28-0 shutout of West Charlotte. Senior running back Cameron Henegan had 220 yards rushing and two touchdowns. The Patriots have 297 touchdown passes since the start of the 1999 season, but junior quarterback Darryl McFadden did not throw for one in the game . . . No. 9 Duncan, S.C., Byrnes moved into the Top 10 after blasting Nashville, Tenn., Montgomery Bell, 62-14, at Vanderbilt University. Byrnes quarterbacks Will Korn and Daniel Barton combined for 466 passing yards with six touchdowns . . . No. 5 Indianapolis, Warren Central mauled Franklin Central, 63-13, out-rushing the Flashes 422-5. Senior quarterback Dexter Taylor had 170 yards on only four carries with two touchdowns . . . Kingsland, Ga., Camden County moved into the regional rankings after hammering state-ranked Marietta, Walton, 45-14, at the Georgia Dome. Senior Brandon West had 246 total yards and four touchdowns.
