FEATS OF THE WEEK: In the opening week of last season, six-time Prep Poll champion Concord, Calif., De La Salle had its 151-game winning streak ended by Bellevue, Wash (39-20). This year, an even longer streak was snapped when regionally ranked Fresno, Clovis West shut out the Spartans for the first time in 308 games (since the 1979 season). The Golden Eagles limited De La Salle to three second-half first downs and rode a 43-yard touchdown run by senior Chris Lewis to a 7-0 victory. De La Salle is 8-4-2 since the start of last season . . . No. 8 Philadelphia, Saint Joseph's Prep proved it is worthy of a Top 10 ranking by defeating then-No. 9 Cleveland, St. Ignatius, 28-14. The week before the Hawks defeated Langhorne, Pa., Neshaminy, which was also ranked No. 9, by the same score . . . No. 13 Jenks, Okla., scored 28 fourth-quarter points for a come-from-behind 48-44 win over then-No. 6 Tulsa, Union. More than 15,000 fans at Tulsa's Skelly Stadium witnessed one of the nation's top rivalries, which has produced the Class 6A state champion every season since 1996.
