FEATS OF THE WEEK: Preseason No. 1 Hoover, Ala., aims to become the first team outside of Texas or California since 1997 to earn a National Prep Poll title. Coach Rush Propst's Bucs, with five Class 6A state titles and a 70-4-0 record since 2000, face a championship-caliber schedule. Their opponents include No. 6 River Ridge, La., John Curtis, regionally ranked Tulsa, Okla., Union, and Alabama's defending 5A (Homewood) and 4A (UMS-Wright) state champions. Hoover is expected to start 20 seniors, including 6-foot-2, 275-pound center Ryan Pugh (Auburn), 6-1, 280-pound defensive tackle Josh Chapman (Auburn) and uncommitted blue chip defensive tackle Kerry Murphy (6-5, 315). Senior quarterback Ross Wilson (6-0, 185) passed for nearly 3,000 yards with 31 touchdowns last season and was named MVP of Hoover's 56-14 state championship win over Daphne.
