The National Prep Football Poll is compiled by high school sports journalist Jamie DeMoney with input from sportswriters, experts, and coaches. The national Top 25 and regional Top 10's follow with 2005 won-loss-tie records:

FEATS OF THE WEEK: Preseason No. 1 Hoover, Ala., aims to become the first team outside of Texas or California since 1997 to earn a National Prep Poll title. Coach Rush Propst's Bucs, with five Class 6A state titles and a 70-4-0 record since 2000, face a championship-caliber schedule. Their opponents include No. 6 River Ridge, La., John Curtis, regionally ranked Tulsa, Okla., Union, and Alabama's defending 5A (Homewood) and 4A (UMS-Wright) state champions. Hoover is expected to start 20 seniors, including 6-foot-2, 275-pound center Ryan Pugh (Auburn), 6-1, 280-pound defensive tackle Josh Chapman (Auburn) and uncommitted blue chip defensive tackle Kerry Murphy (6-5, 315). Senior quarterback Ross Wilson (6-0, 185) passed for nearly 3,000 yards with 31 touchdowns last season and was named MVP of Hoover's 56-14 state championship win over Daphne.
