FEATS OF THE WEEK: Top-ranked Hoover, Ala., opened the season with a convincing 38-0 rout of defending 4A state champion Mobile, UMS-Wright. Senior quarterback Ross Wilson (Alabama-baseball) had four touchdown passes for the Bucs, who next play Friday at regionally ranked Tulsa, Okla., Union. FOX Sports Net will televise the game . . . More than 10,000 spectators and a national ESPN television audience watched host No. 10 Duncan, S.C., Byrnes beat then-regionally ranked Belle Glade, Fla., Glades Central, 27-15. Clemson-bound quarterback Willy Korn threw three interceptions and lost one fumble but had three touchdown passes for the Rebels, who have won 27 straight . . . No. 11 Indianapolis, Warren Central hammered two-time defending 8A Illinois runner-up Park Ridge, Maine South, 61-12. The Warriors, who own three consecutive Indiana 5A crowns, limited the Hawks to negative rushing yards. Michigan-bound safety Jerimy Finch scored on a 54-yard punt return . . . Paul McCoy of Matewan, W.Va., ran 33 times for a state-record 537 yards and six touchdowns in a 48-43 win against Pikeville, Ky., Shelby Valley.
