FEATS OF THE WEEK: Top-ranked Hoover, Ala., cemented its early No. 1 ranking with a 34-7 rout of then-regionally ranked Tulsa, Okla., Union. The game was nationally televised by FOX Sports Net. Senior quarterback Ross Wilson (Alabama-baseball) had two touchdown passes for the Bucs, who ended Union's 57-game winning streak at Tuttle Stadium . . . Running back Carrie Hall entered her name into the record book at Canton, Ohio, McKinley, the nation's seventh winningest prep football program. The 5-foot-2, 135-pound junior became the first girl to carry the football for the Bulldogs, gaining five yards on two carries in the closing moments of McKinley's 56-0 rout of Hamilton, Waterdown (Ontario, Canada) . . . After 79 consecutive losses, the Sturgis, S.D., Scoopers finally won a game. Junior running back Cole Benne scored two touchdowns to lead Sturgis to a streak-ending 22-20 win against Rapid City, Stevens. The Scoopers, who had gone winless since the 1997 season, ended their losing streak three shy of the national record of 82 set by Gibson, Ga., Glascock County from 1990-99.

About the National Prep Poll: Compiled weekly since 1987 and a property of World Features Syndicate, the National Prep Poll is the nation's second oldest weekly high school sports rankings and are the only high school rankings distributed to newspapers and Web sites around the United States by the Associated Press national wire service. The National Prep Poll is the first of the three major high school football and boys basketball polls to released each week during the season.

Note: Jamie DeMoney also compiled the preseason Power 50 national and regional rankings (the very FIRST rankings to be released this season) for the School Sports/Sporting News 2006 High School Football Preview Magazine. The publication (available in bookstores and on newsstands NOW) includes an in-depth breakdown on all 50 nationally ranked and 100 regionally ranked teams, including key players, strengths, weaknesses and overall outlook.

Attention media and coaches: PrepNation Regional Players of the Week begins this week. If you would like to nominate an individual for the weekly honor, please email the pertinent information on the player and his accomplishments for that week to prepnation@aol.com (please include a player photo when possible).
