FEATS OF THE WEEK: In the first of two consecutive weeks when the city of Cincinnati will host a matchup of Top 25 teams, No. 10 St. Xavier defeated No. 13 Lakewood, Ohio, St. Edward, 10-7. The Bombers were outgained in total yardage by nearly 2-to-1, but took advantage of St. Edward turnovers and a blocked punt. St. Xavier, which started last week No. 17, can continue to climb the national rankings with a win Saturday against No. 2 Lakeland, Fla., at Nippert Stadium. It is one of nine games in the Ohio vs. USA Kirk Herbstreit Challenge . . . In one of the nation's top rivalry games, No. 16 Jenks, Okla., defeated Tulsa, Union, 9-6, before a crowd of 17,806 at Tulsa's Skelly Stadium. Jenks and Union have combined to win every Oklahoma 6A state championship since 1996 . . . The nation's second and third longest current win streaks ended. Modesto, Calif., Central Catholic, which had won 61 consecutive games, was beaten 22-14 by Santa Rosa, Cardinal Newman . . . LaCrosse-Washtucna, an 8-man team from Washington, saw its 49-game winning streak ended in a 46-18 rout by Garfield-Palouse. The nation's longest active win streak is owned by No. 8 Charlotte, N.C., Independence (95), followed by No. 14 Batesville, Miss., South Panola (48).
