KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Five teams in last week's national rankings were upset victims, paving the way for five new teams to enter this week's National Prep Poll Top 25.

Among the debut teams is No. 19 Kingsland (Ga.) Camden County, which scored a surprisingly easy 44-16 win at Alabama 6A power Hoover over the weekend . . . No. 21 Allen (Texas) could rapidly shoot up the poll or see its stay in the Top 25 be brief, depending on how the Eagles fare on Saturday against top-ranked Euless Trinity . . . No. 23 Cleveland St. Ignatius begins its second stint of the season in the national rankings. It's only loss came in week 1 to No. 15 Glenville . . . Defending Virginia D-5 champ Ashburn Stone Bridge is in at No. 24 after outscoring its first three opponents by a combined 154-35 . . . No. 25 Maryville (Tenn.), which owns the nation's second longest current win streak (64), is in the national rankings for the third consecutive season.

FEATS OF THE WEEK: For the second time this season -- and fourth in two years -- defending Prep Poll champion Cincinnati, St. Xavier defeated a Top 25 team. The Bombers beat then-No. 20 Ramsey, N.J., Don Bosco, 17-10, in a game played at St. Xavier. In four games this season -- including three against nationally ranked foes -- St. Xavier has not allowed any opponent to score more than 13 points . . . One of the nation's top prep football rivalries was renewed when Tulsa, Okla., Union upset then-No. 11 Jenks, Okla., 24-17. Running back Jeremy Smith (Oklahoma St.) had a 1-yard touchdown run in overtime for Union, which has combined with Jenks to win every Oklahoma 6A state championship awarded since 1996 . . . No. 19 Kingsland, Ga., Camden County broke into the national rankings after a 44-16 win at Alabama power Hoover. According to the Birmingham News, it was the most lopsided loss ever sustained by the Bucs, who have won five 6A titles this decade. Camden County rolled up more than 350 yards rushing, including 187 for senior running back Greg Baker . . . Junior quarterback Albert Gerke of Barrow, Alaska, threw for 385 yards and seven touchdowns in a 46-0 shutout of Fairbanks, Monroe Catholic. According to the Anchorage Daily News, the seven touchdowns tied a state record. Barrow High, located in the northernmost city in the United States, clinched a playoff spot in just its third year playing high school football.

About the National Prep Poll: Compiled weekly weekly since 1987 and distributed by World Features Syndicate and the Associated Press, the National Prep Poll is the nation's second oldest weekly high school sports rankings. Doug Huff of Student Sports compiled the rankings from 1987 until 1999. Jamie DeMoney has compiled the poll since the start of the 1999 basketball season. The National Prep Poll is the only high school poll distributed to newspapers and Web sites around the United States by the Associated Press national wire service. The National Prep Poll is the first high school football and boys basketball poll to released in the preseason and during each week of the regular season. Criteria considered for the National Prep Poll rankings are strength of schedule, the ability to accomplish the ultimate goal on a team's schedule (i.e. winning a championship), impact players and performers, a team's coaching and recent tradition.

Jamie DeMoney has covered high school sports and recruiting for more than 15 years. He has compiled the National Prep Poll for World Features Syndicate and the Associated Press since 1999 and has also compiled high school rankings for Sporting News and RISE.
