FEATS OF THE WEEK: No. 3 Batesville, South Panola is champion of Mississippi's largest classification for the sixth time in eight years. The Tigers' 28-7 win over previously unbeaten Meridian in the 6A final was their 27th straight win - all by double-digit margins. ... Meanwhile, No. 4 Lakewood, St. Edward became Ohio's Division I champion for the first time in school history. The Eagles rallied to beat regionally ranked Huber Heights, Wayne, 35-28, on a snowy night in Canton, Ohio. Senior quarterback Braxton Miller (an Ohio St. recruit) accounted for all four Wayne touchdowns. ... No. 8 Denver, Mullen was barely challenged this season as it rolled to a third consecutive 5A championship. The Mustangs put an exclamation point on their 33rd straight win, hammering then-unbeaten Aurora, Regis Jesuit, 37-6, at Invesco Field. Adonis Ameen-Moore (uncommitted) ran for 186 yards and two touchdowns and finished his four-year career with over 6,000 yards and 83 touchdowns. ... No. 19 Alcoa, Tenn., entered the national poll after winning its seventh consecutive state title. The Tornadoes blew away Madison, Goodpasture Christian, 56-14, in the 3A championship game. They have 43 straight wins, including a decision over state 6A champion Maryville earlier this season.
