FEATS OF THE WEEK: For the second time in three seasons, the final No. 1 ranking in the National Prep Poll belongs to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., St. Thomas Aquinas. It is the third time in five years the Prep Poll title has been won by a team from Florida. Aquinas captured its third 5A state title in four years - and sixth since 1992 - with a 29-7 win over defending champ Tampa, Plant. Senior quarterback Jacob Rudock (an Iowa commit) connected with senior receiver Rashad Greene (Florida St.) six times for 142 yards and two touchdowns. For the season, the Raiders' average margin of victory was 37 points with wins over 12 playoff qualifiers from three different states. They have only two losses since the start of the 2007 season under veteran coach George Smith (361-66 in 34 seasons). ... Meanwhile, champions were crowned in three others states including Texas, where Aledo, Texas, junior Jonathan Gray scored his state-record 58th rushing touchdown of the season during a 69-34 romp over La Marque in the 4A/II championship game. ... In California, No. 17 Folsom thumped Gardena, Serra, 48-20, for the Division II title. Senior quarterback Dano Graves (uncommitted) finished the year with a state-record 76 combined passing and rushing touchdowns.
