URBANDALE, Iowa -- There were some significant changes in the Top 10 and throughout the rest of the third National Prep Football Poll of the season.

A huge preseason game blowout that didn't count in the standings, but was televised by ESPN, vaulted Manatee (Bradenton, Fla.) from No. 21 to No. 5 this week. The Hurricanes dismantled previously No. 2-ranked Plant (Tampa), 48-10, in a rematch of last year's 5A championship game. Though the game was technically a scrimmage, starters for both teams played significant minutes while the outcome was still in doubt and as Manatee began to pull away.

Moving from the regional rankings only into the Top 10 this week was Colerain (Cincinnati). The Cardinals were very impressive in a season-opening 35-6 blowout of Northmont (Clayton), despite playing the game without their top defender Jarrett Grace, a Notre Dame recruit who was nursing an injured shoulder.

Also entering the Top 25 this week were No. 14 Miami Central and No. 21 Bingham (South Jordan, Utah). In another preseason game, Miami Central was dynamite in a 50-6 runaway against state-ranked Ely (Pompano Beach). Bingham has been dominant in two games this season, including Saturday's 49-26 blowout of former state-No. 2 Alta (Sandy).

The National Prep Football Poll is compiled by high school sports journalist Jamie DeMoney with input from sportswriters, experts, and coaches. The national Top 25 and regional Top 10's follow with won-loss records:

About the National Prep Poll: Compiled weekly weekly since 1987 and distributed by World Features Syndicate and the Associated Press, the National Prep Poll is the nation's second oldest weekly high school sports rankings. The National Prep Poll is the only high school poll distributed to newspapers and Web sites around the United States by the Associated Press national wire service. The National Prep Poll is the first high school football and boys basketball poll to released in the preseason and during each week of the regular season. Criteria considered for the National Prep Poll rankings are strength of schedule, the ability to accomplish the ultimate goal on a team's schedule (i.e. winning a championship), impact players and performers, a team's coaching and recent tradition.
