FEATS OF THE WEEK: If preseason No. 1 Ramsey, N.J., Don Bosco can hold on to the top spot in the National Prep Poll until season's end, it will join elite company. In the 24 previous seasons the Prep Poll has been published, only five teams have won multiple national championships. The Ironmen are looking to match the feat of winning two titles in three seasons, accomplished by No. 3 Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Aquinas last year. Led by 13th-year coach Greg Toal (132-10-0), Don Bosco has 14 returning starters including at least eight FBS prospects in its senior class. Blue chip end Darius Hamilton (uncommitted) and linebacker Mike Strizak (Boston College) are among nine regulars back from a defense that surrendered only eight points per game last season. The Ironmen, who have a 35-game winning streak, will be tested early and often. They open at home against No. 17 Mission Viejo, Calif., followed by a trip the next week to No. 8 Bradenton, Fla., Manatee. On October 8, they play No. 4 Lakewood, Ohio. St. Edward October 8 in West Point, N.Y.

About the National Prep Poll: Compiled weekly weekly since 1987 and distributed by World Features Syndicate and the Associated Press, the National Prep Poll is the nation's second oldest weekly high school sports rankings. Doug Huff of ESPN RISE compiled the rankings from 1987 until 1999. Jamie DeMoney has compiled the poll since the start of the 1999 basketball season to the present.

The National Prep Poll is the only high school poll distributed to newspapers and Web sites around the United States by the Associated Press national wire service.

Among the criteria used in the weekly compilation of the National Prep Poll rankings are strength of schedule, the ability to accomplish the ultimate goal on a team's schedule (i.e. winning a championship), impact players and performers, a team's coaching and recent tradition.
