FEATS OF THE WEEK: Kelvin Taylor, a junior from Belle Glade, Glades Day and son of former All-Pro running back Fred Taylor, broke the Florida career rushing mark previously held by another former NFL star. Taylor ran for 388 yards and six touchdowns in his team’s 43-22 win over Stuart, South Fork. His 8,975 career yards tops the 8,804 amassed by Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith from 1983-86 at Pensacola, Escambia. With potentially four playoff games and an entire senior season left to play, Taylor stands a very realistic chance of breaking the national all-time rushing mark of 11,232 yards set by Ken Hall of Sugar Land, Texas, from 1950-53. ... Cooper Rush of Lansing, Mich., Catholic set four state records in his team’s 61-13 Division 5 playoff rout of Dowagiac. Rush (committed to Cent. Michigan) had a record eight touchdown passes despite playing less than three full quarters. According to the Lansing State Journal, his seven first-half touchdown passes, five first-quarter touchdowns and 21 straight completions were also state records. ... According to the Lexington Herald-Leader, Hebron, Ky., Conner had 745 team rushing yards in an 84-48 defeat of Frankfort, Franklin County. The performance broke the state record and is tied for the fifth-highest team rushing total in history, according to the National High School Sports Record Book. The all-time record was 893 rushing yards by Centerville, Texas, in a 2003 game.
