FEATS OF THE WEEK: Several Illinois all-class state championship game records were broken in Lombard, Montini’s 70-45 win over Joliet, Catholic, for the 5A title. Montini receiver Jordan Westerkamp (a Nebraska recruit) set records with 331 receiving yards and five touchdown catches. The passes were delivered by John Rhode, who set new marks with 587 passing yards and seven touchdowns. Joliet Catholic junior running back Ty Isaac had already broken the record for rushing yards in a game by halftime and finished with 515 yards. ... In the Illinois 4A title game, Oklahoma St. recruit Wes Lunt had 506 passing yards to lead Rochester, Ill., to its second consecutive 4A title in a 42-39 win over Richmond, Richmond-Burton. ... According to the Washington Post, senior Rob Chesson of Millersville, Old Mill broke the Maryland record for touchdowns in a single season. Chesson scored seven touchdowns during a 312 rushing yards performance in his team’s 49-20 rout of Baltimore, Catonsville in the 4A state semifinals. He now has 49 touchdowns this season. ... Brendan Nosovitch (South Carolina) threw eight touchdown passes and ran for another score to carry Allentown, Pa., Central Catholic past Archbald, Valley View in the 3A playoffs. ... The longest active win streak among 11-man teams is now shared by No. 2 Ramsey, N.J., Don Bosco and Lafayette, Ind., Central Catholic with 45 apiece. Don Bosco blanked Montvale, St. Joseph’s Regional, 41-0, on Thanksgiving. Central Catholic whipped Indianapolis, Scecina, 38-7, for the Class A state title. Then-No. 20 Hamilton, Ariz., Hamilton had won 53 straight but was beaten, 45-19, by Phoenix, Desert Vista in the Division I state final.
