FEATS OF THE WEEK: On opening night in North Carolina, two of the nation’s longest winning streaks came to an end. In Charlotte, No. 15 Mallard Creek snapped then-No. 9 Matthews, Butler’s run of 31 consecutive victories with a 28-20 triumph. Meanwhile, Mount Ulla, West Rowan, which had prep football’s longest active streak (46), squandered a 14-0 second-half lead and was beaten on the road by Mooresville, 21-14. The longest active win streak in the country now belongs to regionally ranked Hampton, Va., Phoebus. The Phantoms have won 45 straight. ... A national Fox Sports Net audience watched the Sollenberger Classic at University of Phoenix Stadium, where No. 7 Las Vegas, Bishop Gorman crushed then-No. 20 Scottsdale, Ariz., Chaparral, 42-22. The Gaels, who outscored Chaparral 35-8 in the second half, got 300 rushing yards and six touchdowns from senior Shaquille Powell (uncommitted). Next up for Bishop Gorman is a meeting with No. 13 Seffner, Fla., Armwood this Friday on ESPN2. ... Louisville, Ky., Trinity jumped 14 spots in the rankings to No. 8 after hammering Tennessee power Brentwood, Academy, 45-7. With a 64-13 ambush of Merrillville, No. 11 Indianapolis, Warren Central moved up 12 spots in this week’s poll.
